the Swedes are renowned for, and the ingenuity and wonder of these structural feats
are worth the trio alone. Crossing Västerbron - the bridge that links the islands of
Södermalm and Kungsholmen is a must do, as it offers one of the best vantage points
in the city, with panoramic views over the center.
Old Town:
No trip to Stockholm would be complete without a visa to Gamla Stan (Old Town)
with its stunning attractions, cafes, restaurants, and wonderful boutique shops. It’s
also the home of the Royal Palace (a UNESCO world heritage site), the official
residence of King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia (though don’t expect to see them
there too often, they tend to opt for the less imposing palace of Drottningholm).
Visitors will be able to meander through an enchanting and bewildering labyrinth of
tiny winding streets which date back to medieval times. There really is no shortage of
things to do in the Old town, not least visit the stunning Stockholm Cathedral, and
the Nobel Museum.
Museums:
Speaking of museums, if you're looking for a cultural getaway, then Stockholm’s
incredible array of museums won’t disappoint. From Skansen’s open air museum (The
oldest open-air museum in the world) located on the island of Djurgården. To the
Vasa Museum, which is home to the awe inspiring Vasa battleship, which would have
been the pride of the Swedish imperial fleet, had it not met duster on its ill-fated

maiden voyage in 1628. Of course it’s not just the works of antiquity on offer, no! The
Swedes really do take their museums seriously, and modern newcomers are aplenty.
Attractions like ABBA the Museum and Fotografiska, have only helped solidify
Stockholm’s place as a cultural mecca. The Moderna Museet boasts a formidable
collection of art from the twentieth century to today, holding works by artists
including Matisse, Picasso, Derkert and Dali. We could go on, but there really are just
too many to mention.
Boat sightseeing:
Given that Stockholm sits on a fourteen beautiful islands, it should come as no
surprise that boat sightseeing is one of the most pleasurable ways you can enjoy all
the sights the city has to offer. Where Lake Mälaren meets with Baltic Sea, a boat
tour of Stockholm gives you the opportunity to take in the beauty of the city while
cruising leisurely along its stunning vistas and sparkling blue water. Enjoy the
beautiful panoramic views of the city from the boat, or hop and off at your choosing
when you purchase a 24 hour ticket (the boats are frequent so don't worry about
being left behind). There are a number of companies offering the boat tours, so do
your research to decide which one is for you, but most of them will offer free Wi-Fi, on
board cafe’s restaurants (even bars in some cases) as well as commentary in multiple
languages.
Swedish food:

While Swedish cuisine may not receive as much attention as other European cuisine,
Stockholm has been at the center of a complete culinary revolution over the last
twenty years. The city has an abundance of fantastic restaurants, delis, food markets,
microbreweries, coffeehouses and chocolatiers, and just about anything else you
would expect from a top class foodie destination. Sweden's unique and rich
countryside offers produce that is as unique as it is exceptional. Its vast forests are
full of wild game, berries and mushrooms. Its coasts produce some of the finest shell-
fish and fish around, and its summers with their long, light day’s produces fruit that is
as rich in flavor as you will find. Nordic cuisine is clean and simple, yet sophisticated,
and it’s for this reason that it often draws parallels with Japanese food. There are now
eight Michelin star restaurants in Stockholm, as well as countless other highly
regarded eateries where you can enjoy traditional Swedish fare at a more affordable
price.
A Swedish Safari:
That’s right! You can discover Sweden's rich wildlife and stunning forests on a 4 hour
sunset safari from Stockholm. You will travel in the comfort of an air-conditioned
minivan through the vast rural settings surrounding the city and drive directly into the
dense and atmospheric forests that Sweden is famous for. Exploring such landscapes
at sunset, only amplifies the breathtaking beauty on Stockholm's doorstep. It will also
increase your chances of spotting the iconic herds of Elk that populate Sweden’s vast
wilderness. There is also a rich array of other wildlife including moose, wild boar, and
if your very lucky, wild lynx. Sweden is also home to one of the most diverse varieties

of bird life in Europe, and every Autumn around half a billion migratory birds will pass
over southern Sweden setting the scene for one of the biggest migratory movements
nature has to offer.
The best time to visit Stockholm is in the summer, and while it’s no secret that
Sweden is not the cheapest destination (particularly at this time of year!) you won’t
find many people who have visited the Venice of the North as it is affectionately
referred to, and felt short changed. Its architectural beauty, natural wonders and
cultural delights are all joys to behold.
