Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city. Originally known as Eko, it was ruled bykings that were eventually conquered by neighboring city Benin. Afterthis, the Portuguese and British colonies successively used Lagos to
further their trading needs and the city became famous for being the hub ofmany spices and metals.
Lagos still serves as the main area of activity today due to its convenientlocation and cosmopolitan culture. Although most of the businesses arelocated on the islands, the majority of the population lives on the mainland.
There are lots of great places to eat in Lagos - make sure to try the traditional pepper soup. Unless you are in a supermarket or restaurant/barwith fixed prices, you will be expected to negotiate the price you pay for anitem, so be prepared to haggle.

The capital of India has a truly fascinating history, with a population of14 million sprawling over 1,500 sq. km (585 sq. miles.) Plagued by thesubcontinent's highest levels of pollution, growth, and poverty, Delhi's
delights are not immediately apparent but can soon be found. It may not have the vibrancy of Mumbai or the atmosphere of Kolkata, but
no other city can offer you the sheer grace of the soaring Qutb Minar Tower, built in 1199 or the 1920s British imperialist masterpiece the palatialRashtrapati Bhavan.
Spend time wandering through the sculptural Jantar Mantar, a huge, open-airastronomy observatory built in 1725 and the still-sacred atmosphere surroundingthe tomb of the 14th-century Sufi saint, Sheikh Nizamuddin Aulia, and onlythen will you begin to understand the wonders of this great city.

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. A popular destination fortourists, it is known for its historic port, the Rijksmuseum, the red-lightdistrict (de Wallen), and the liberal coffeeshops. The city is famous for its
canals, which has resulted in Amsterdam being called the “Venice of the North”.Amsterdam has all the advantages of a big city: culture, nightlife, international
restaurants, good transport – but is quiet and, largely thanks to its canals, has alittle road traffic. All of this means that Amsterdam is one of the greatest smallcities in the world. From its canals to museums and historical sights, it is oneof the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe. Famous for its progressive attitude, and discussed over its tolerance on basically everything. So whether you’re an art lover, music lover or a culture lover, Amsterdam hasmore to offer than you could possibly wish for.

Milan may not be Italy’s capital but it is the financial centre, home toItaly’s stock exchange, and similar to Paris and London the heart ofthe country.
The city has been rebuilt many times, which means it has lost some ofits medieval charm compared to other Italian towns but what Milan lacks architecturally it makes up for in other ways.
Not only is Milan the financial centre it is also the fashion centre of Italy.Milan’s designer clothes and interior shops are a major attraction for the morefashion-conscious tourists.
Sit outside a cafe by the Duomo and admire the well-dressed world go by,or enjoy the views across the city and the mountains. If you want a taste ofthe Italian lifestyle then there is no better place to visit than Milan.

their way towards the town on the seven hills of Tiber. As they say Rome wasn’t built in a day and it has unarguably one of the
richest histories of any city on earth. As a religious and cultural centre, it hassurvived turbulent centuries of aristocratic and papal rivalries, upheaval andall the while incorporating some of the finest architecture.
Rome is far from being just a museum – it is a colourful and vibrant livingcity, which makes it arguably an appealing destination for all who visit.

The city of Sofia is set in one of the most dramatic locations. Ringed bythe Balkan Mountains to the north and the Vitosha Mountains to thesouth, the capital stands on an open plain 550m (1,804ft) above sea
level in western Bulgaria. The town centre is dominated by neo-classicalStalinist architecture, however a peek through the side streets and century-oldcommercial quarter reveals the true magic of Sofia – a European city oftree-lined streets. To experience the true essence of Sofia check out the streetlife – that is where the character of the city is to be found. Locals meet forcoffee at open-air cafés, vast bazaars offer an array of pickles and farm produce, gypsies sell flowers on street corners, while shoppers queue to board the city’s rattling trams and folk musicians serenade the metro users. The city’s motto, ‘Ever growing, never old,’ is as true today as it ever was.

St Petersburg is often described as the ‘Venice of the North’ because ofits palace-lined waterways. A beautiful city, it managed to escape the architectural incursions of Stalinism and still displays the grandiose
relics of tsarist days. The city is sculpted by islands and the sinuous NevaRiver, making the scenery elegant and wonderfully romantic. As this city hasnot been modernised it is ruefully falling apart; but this just increases itsbeauty and makes it even more appealing to visitors.
St Petersburg is thought of as the most European city in Russia and offers avibrant cultural life featuring some of the world’s best theatre and ballet productions, which must not be overlooked on a trip.
Those who visit St Petersburg are sure to wish to return to what is considered one of the most beautiful city’s in the world.

Today’s Zagreb has grown out of two medieval settlements, Kaptol andGradec, that for centuries developed on neighboring hills. Now the capital city of Croatia is divided into three parts: the thousand-year-old
Gornji grad (upper town) which contains the Presidential Palace, the historicchurch of St. Mark's, the Croatian parliament, and museums and galleries whichare all set in cobbled streets lit by gas lamps; the 19th century Donji grad (lowertown) with its shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres, parks; and the modern post-war Novi Zagreb (new Zagreb) which is full of high-rise buildings.
Zagreb is called a city of museums as there are more of them per square meterthan any other city in the world. But this doesn’t mean that there is nothing elsefor you to do. One of the many pleasures that the Zagrebcani (the people ofZagreb) enjoy is sitting in one of the numerous cafes watching the world go by.

Boston is the largest city in New England, the capital of the state ofMassachusetts. If America doesn’t ‘do’ history, then they should probably have let Boston know. It is one of the most historic, wealthy
and influential cities in the US. After some disastrous ‘urban renewal’ projectsin the 1950s it provoked such a furious backlash that Boston now has some ofthe best preserved historic buildings and neighbourhoods in the US.
The city’s 19th century glory can be seen through its grand architecture, population of literati, artists and educators as well as its world-renowned academic and cultural institutions.
Boston is compact, making it accessible to walk around and visit its historicand cultural attractions. This is a good thing as there are dozens of museums,62 historical sites, and nearly 2,000 restaurants.

If you are looking for a city without the familiar coffee shops and fast foodchains look no further than Havana. This city is arguably Latin America’sbest-preserved colonial city. Havana is one of the oldest and grandest
cities in the Americas and offers far more to the visitor than a glimpse ofcommunist life. For centuries, Spanish and African interaction have made it ahotbed of culture and the vibrancy of Cuban music and dance alone make itworth the trip. Pastel-coloured colonial buildings, cool squares, palm trees, and the waves lapping against the crumbling sea wall make it visuallybewitching, all set in a tropical climate.
Havana has much more to offer than a glimpse of life without McDonald’s ithas scores of museums and essential sights. The city has a beguiling ambience,so ensure you have time to take a leisurely stroll and experience its inner beauty.

Mexico City is the capital of Mexico. It is the economic, political andcultural centre of the country, and the most populous.Mexico City is located in the Valley of Mexico also known as Valley
of Anáhuac, a large gorge in the high plateaus at the center of Mexico. It wasoriginally built by the Aztecs in 1325 on an island of Lake Texcoco.
To truly understand Mexico one needs to spend time in Mexico City, as thecapital encapsulates the spirit of the country. Perhaps more than any othercity on earth, Mexico City is at the intersection between the first and thirdworlds. One moment the city is full of Latin beats, glamour and excitement;and the next it is drabness, poverty, suffocating crowds and rancid smells. In spite of the negatives, Mexico City is a magnet for Mexicans and visitorsalike. You will certainly not be bored in this vibrant, historic city.
