In 2005, which is the last documented data, in the City of Madrid, of the total people “only in charge of household tasks”, 39% are women as opposed to 5% of the men.
The sharing of household tasksThe sharing of household tasks
In Madrid, the sharing of household and childrearing tasks is asymmetrical between men and women, and co-responsibility, although it is progressing, is yet to become a reality.
The main responsibility for domestic and household tasks continues to fall upon women in 66% of the cases and, in 11% of the cases, upon men.
In Madrid, for each man dedicated tohousehold tasks and to the care of
dependent people, there are 13 women.
Differentiating factors between Differentiating factors between genders regarding the use of timegenders regarding the use of time
The use of time has to do with the way women and men organize their daily activities and shows the evolution of co-responsibility regarding them.
In Madrid:
73% of the men dedicate time to the home and to the family, for a period of 2 hours a day.
92% of the women dedicate time to this activity, spending a daily average of 4 hours and 28 minutes.
Differentiating factors between Differentiating factors between genders with regard to area of workgenders with regard to area of work
We observe a model of continuity in the active life of men, which descends as the retirement age is approached, and a model of discontinuous activity for women that descends little by little after thirtyyears of age
