NID, AHMEDABAD USTTAD Project of Ministry of Minority Affairs had conducted a ‘Design Development Workshop for Paper-mache Cluster of Srinagar’ at NID Ahmedabad for the benefit of minority community who are involved in traditional arts and crafts. The Student Activity Councils of the college’s Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar campuses arranged a baatein session with Sadhguru. The institute signed an agreement with International University of Chabahar (IUC), to facilitate student / faculty exchange, joint research programmes, and knowledge sharing between the two institutes. NID and ATIRA jointly unveiled a face mask for Gujarat policemen to protect from continuous exposure to air pollution. IIT, GANDHINAGAR

City Campuses that made news thisyear

With different colleges organising seminars,workshops, activities, collaborations with foreign universities, let’s take a look atall the major events that took place in colleges this year that resulted in thesecampuses grabbing attention.

NID, AHMEDABAD

Indian Navy signs MoU with IIT-Gn to promote academic cooperation andenhance scientific understanding of technologies related to defence.

IIT-Gn provided housing facilities to over 10,000 construction workers on thecampus.

US students attended a 10 - day workshop held by IIT-Gn, and came up withinnovative ideas to solve rural and urban problems.

‘Mindeye’ a project by the institute which helps detect depression among soldierswas shown to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Army Day. Director of OxfordUniversity, Paul Smith conducted lecture at IITGn on ‘The coevolution of Life andEarth’. The institute installed a sewage treatment plant which saves 3L water perday and is used to maintain the 400 acre green cover of the campus.

IIT-Gn and Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM) signed MoU to worktogether on disaster resistant construction technology and fire safety.

Researches at IIT-Gn invent nanosheets made of boron, which is the first in theworld. Students of IITGn join hands with AMC in the ‘Cleanliness Drive’.

ST. XAVIER’S COLLEGE

St. Xavier’s College waived off the parking fee in 2018, after collecting parking feefor over 10 years.

The college for the first time, since achieving the autonomous status, held its firstconvocation ceremony for 553 students.

The college also held a National conference on ‘Present day Biology- A Bastionfor Social and Sustainable Development’.

CEPT UNIVERSITY

CEPT International Office announced International Research and TeachingFellowship for young graduates from outside India to teach at the University inAhmedabad in 2018.

CEPT University in collaboration with Manthan Educational Programme Society,India announced ‘Craft CoLaborative Fellowship 2018’.

CEPT initiated a collaboration with South East University, Nanjing, China forSummer School course titled ‘Heritage Responsive Cities: Comparative Practicesof Ahmedabad, India & Nanjing, China’.

PDPU

PDPU signed an MoU with Institute for Plasma Research to broaden theopportunities for students to develop core subject knowledge complemented bytraining interventions.

An MoU was also signed between PDPU and ONGC, Institute of Reservoir Studies(IRS) to transfer the best know-how, industry standard workflow and bestpractices to each other.

PDPU also conducted an International Conference on geothermal energy.

DA-IICT, GANDHINAGAR

DA-IICT signed an MoU with the IITJammu, for academic and researchcollaboration particularly, to design and offer teaching programs leading todegrees.

The institute has signed an MoU with Bennett University, Noida, as acolloborative partner which will look at learning and artificial intelligencetechnologies.

IIM AHMEDABAD

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his trip to India, visited IIM-A,emphasized on women empowerment and the role of media in holdinggovernment accountable in his address to the students.

Professor Errol D’Souza was appointed as the Director of IIM-A .

Baahubali 2 was introduced as a case study in IIM-A to focus on teaching thepower of a sequel.

The Post Graduate fee at IIM-A was hiked by 5%, and is now `22 lakhs.

The recently graduated batch of Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) at IIM-A witnessed a sharp rise in women graduates pointing towards equal progressand gender equality.

This year, the institute set aside $25 million for startups under Bharat InclusionInitiative.
