Important Information – Please read this before you start!

During the Citrix setup you will be asked to install a small Citrix connector on your machine, this must be installed for the solution to work.

While you are using the remote access facility you are working on the school network. Your access to the school network is monitored and the acceptable use policy applies at all times. Misuse of the remote system may result in all access being suspended.

The remote access solution allows two forms of access to the school network from home.

Software only accesso This will let users borrow school software from the application area. The software loads into a

temp area on your remote computer ready for you to use. When the software is closed it is removed from your machine. (Virtual applications)

o The software behaves like it is installed on your machine. Documents are saved locally etc.

o Currently published applications include Office 2007 and 2D Design. More appplications will be available in the future.

o The software runs on Windows and Apple computers. Some of the software works on IPads and Android systems are not fully tested. You will need the relelvant apps for this to work. Please contact ICT Support.

LWS Curriculum desktop accesso The remote desktop solution gives users full access to the school desktop in a browser syle

window.o For security reasons you will not be able to copy files between the school network and your

home machine.o Your local home printer will be mapped to the school desktop. You will be able to print files

from your school folders and drives to your home printer.o You have normal access to RM shared documents areas.

Getting Started!

1. Open Internet explorer and navigate to – https://anywhere.lordwilliams.oxon.sch.uk, you should see the CC4anywhere school login window as below. Note the “S” in HTTPS, this is secure so the traffic is encrypted.

2. Login to the page with your normal school curriculum login. The first time you use this page it may take a few minutes to load. It validates your browser settings and checks to see if you have the correct plugins.

3. The first time you access the site it checks for the Citrix plugin, you will be asked to install the Citrix connector software as below.

4. This is a very small plugin utility. Tick the small option box to agree with the disclaimer. This will activate the “Download” button. Click download and wait for the next screen. At this point you may see the Active X security bar at the top of the screen. Right click on this bar and select install.

5. You should now see the standard download box as below. Click the “Run” option. This will install the software.

6. Click “OK” to accept the successful installation box.

7. At this point we have seen two options; one goes through to the main screen below and the other sits on the loading screen. We suggest logging out of CC4 Anywhere and logging back in again to reset the connection.You should now see the screen below. There are 2 tabs on the main page, Applications and Desktops.

8. Applications are fairly self-explanatory and we have organised them into sections like Office etc. If you click on a software title they will load onto your remote machine or device. These should load fairly quickly but will depend on you internet connection.

9. The desktop tab shows the “CC4 Anywhere Desktop” icon, clicking this will load a new window with the school network hosted inside.

10. When the desktop loads you will see a “Location Chooser” applet, click “Main Site” and then OK. (There is a reason for this which we will discuss at a later date)

11. You are now logged in to the main school desktop. Although the remote access looks like the normal school desktop it is slightly diffident, We are working to make all of the application available.

13. Access to your “My Documents”.

14. Access to your normal shared drive, “N” and RMSharedDocuments.

15. Printing is a very neat feature, if you have a printer installed at home it will map to the remote desktop when you login for this session. Just choose your printer from the list and print!

16. You can use the internet when you are on the remote connection but it is still filtered.

17. When you finish with your session you should log off from the desktop. Logging off will end the session correctly. If your session crashed you have 15 minutes to re connect before the session is reset. If you leave a session running it will be reset overnight.

18. Students have a single concurrent login restriction so leaving a remote session open at home will affect your login at school. The server reboots every morning at 4:00am to reduce the possibility of login problems. If you use the system before you come to school make sure you log off.
