    The information provided here is based off of realdata from the 2000 Census. The data visualized onthe map, as well as in the bar graphs, representdemographics of Bristol, Plymouth, and BarnstableCounties. The base maps used provide oulines of 

    Massachusetts and Bristol, Plymouth, andBarnstable counties. Addition base maps wereused to display the towns within the three counties.The map displays the ten cities and their populations using graduated symbols. Thesymbols have different sizes to visualize thevariation in population size. The symbols in themap represent absolute data. The city populationsare separated into five classes. The cities on themap are labeled to the right of the symbols.

    About the Graphs

    The second graph represents the housing unitdemographics within the ten cities. The data for this graph is also represented in percentages andis relative to the total population of each city in2000. This graph displays the differences betweenrenter occupied, owner occupied, and vacant units.The demographics express the majority of housingunits in the 10 cities are renter occupied housingunits.

    The first graph represents racial demographics inthe ten cities within Bristol, Plymouth, andBarnstable Counties. The data is represented inpercentages and is relative to the total populationfor each city in 2000. For clarity and visualreasons, the group “other” was created to displayany race other than “white,” as expressed by the2000 Census. The demographics displayed showthe majority of the cities listed as white, with only asmall percentage of most cities as other.
