What does the tool do and how does one find it?

• You can find “CiteULike” by typing www.CiteULike.com into your browser.

• Once you reach the home page you can log in or join, in the right hand top corner, or you can simply browse the page without joining.

• CiteULike is a FREE service to help you to store, organize and share the scholarly papers you are reading.

What are the features?

• When you see a paper on the web that interests you, you can click one button (which you can install on your toolbar) and have it added to your personal library.

• CiteULike automatically extracts the citation details, so there is less work for you! You may choose between different ways of citing, such as APA or MLA.

• You can also set up a “watch” list to keep track of new and interesting articles on the website.

• Share references with others who have libraries, see who is reading what you are reading and store and search PDFs.

Why would someone use the tool?

• This tool is useful in organizing and finding scholarly articles.

• You can join discussion groups or common interest groups and find articles that interest you or that you may need for research.

• It grants you access to all the articles you may be using in your research papers and projects.

• CiteUlike can also serve as a place to do research.

Is it strictly web-based or does one need to download and install software?

• It all works from within your web browser so there's no need to install any software.

• Because your library is stored on the server, you can access it from any computer with an Internet connection.

How could you use this tool in and out of the classroom?

• You can access Cite-U-Like from any computer with internet access and use it to organize you scholarly articles/websites for various school projects.

• Cite-U-Like is more of a “classroom” tool because generally speaking, scholarly articles are preferred by teachers, not peers.

Is it easy to set up an account and are there different account levels (i.e. free versus paid). What

are the differences in available features between the two?

• There aren’t different account levels. There is only one free account which is extremely easy to set up.

• All that is needed is your name, email address and password.

Can the tool be used for academic purposes? How? Give some examples. Did you use the tool for any of your

classes while you were checking it out?

• Yes, the tool can be used for academic purposes.

• CiteULike may be a great tool for doing research or writing a paper. The site makes citing easier for you (YOU DON’T HAVE TO MEMORIZE FORMATS!) and it can help you store, organize and share the scholarly papers you are reading and citing.

From a user’s perspective, do you think this tool could be improved? How?

• I think the site needs more video on how to use all the features because it is quite confusing when you first start.

• On one page, there are too many links and all of the sites could potentially be overwhelming.

• Not all databases and journals are accepted by CiteUlike, but most of the common sites are, although I did find a few sites I wanted to cite, that I could not cite.

Would you use this tool or recommend that others use it? Why or why not?

• I personally wouldn’t use this tool nor would I recommend it for anyone’s use.

• I feel that there are other more simplistic ways out there to organize and search for scholarly sources

• If you do choose to use the site, I would recommend setting up an account and learning to use the site before you use it for a project.
