3. Click on ‘View secondary documents’

Secondary documents are extracted from the reference list of documents. Secondary documents are not found in the Scopus databases. These documents could be:

• an article published in a journal that is not indexed in Scopus.

• a book, a thesis, patent or another type of publication that is not indexed in Scopus

• a reference that contains incorrect or missing information and therefore cannot be linked to a Full Record in Scopus database. It is most likely a variation of another cited reference that is linked to a Full Record.

Scopus –Searching for Citations to a Name Variant

11. Due to the inconsistencies in publishing, it may be necessary to determine citations to individual works using a name variant.

E.g. Journal article Ang TP, Wee TSA, Chin WS Three-dimensional self-assembled monolayer (3D SAM) of n-alkanethiols on copper nanoclusters JOURNAL OF PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY B 108 (30): 11001-11010 JUL 29 2004

12. Under the advanced search, choose field codes from the right panel:

• Under Authors, choose ‘Author(AUTH)’ and type “Wee t s a” (with quotes) • Enter AND • Under References, choose ‘Reference’ and type chem.

The final query string should look something like this [ AUTH("Wee t s a") AND REF(chem) ]. Click on Search.

Scopus –Searching for Citations to a Specific Work

15. As there are limitations to the Refine Results function, it may be necessary to determine citations by looking at individual works.

E.g. Book Singapore: A Developmental City State / by Martin Perry, Lily Kong and Brenda Yeoh. New York : Wiley, 1997.

16. Under the Document search tab, search for yeoh b and select Authors from the dropdown list on the right. Click on the “+” to add another search parameter

17. Enter “Singapore a developmental city state” (with quotes) and select References from the dropdown list. Click search.
