Cisco Smart Software Licensing
Cisco Smart Software Licensing provides a simple cloud-based solution for managing and tracking the useof your licenses and entitlements across your business.
When purchased, licenses are automatically delivered to your company Smart Account, ready for use. Devicesreport license use by registering to your Smart Account either directly across the internet, through an internetproxy, or by using a Smart Software Manager satellite to mediate reporting from devices across the business.
Cisco Smart Software Manager (CSSM) is the secure, cloud-based portal used to:
• Assign licenses to business entities using Virtual Accounts.
• Register devices to Virtual Accounts.
• Manage license inventory and monitor use.
• Track device authorization for feature use.
For more information on Cisco Smart Licensing, see http://www.cisco.com/go/smartlicensing.

Registration and License ComplianceDevices are required to register with the Cisco Smart Software Manager or satellite to report feature usageand compliance with purchased entitlements. The Smart Agent running on the Cisco UBE platform transitionsbetween the following operational states to control the use of licensed features:
Smart Agent Licensing States
• Unregistered / Evaluation Mode—When the platform is first used, the Smart Agent is in the unregisteredstate. In this state, SIP services, including Cisco UBE licensed features may be used freely during a90-day evaluation period. You can check the SIP service status by using the show voice sip licensestatus command.
• Unregistered / Evaluation Expired—If the Smart Agent has not successfully registered by the end ofthe evaluation period, SIP services, including Cisco UBE licensed features, are disabled. You can checkthe SIP service status by using the show voice sip license status command.cube#show voice sip license status

Nov 26 2019 04:59:53 IST 15 Eval period
• Registered—To enable licensed features, the platform must be registered to CSSM or satellite using aregistration ID token. Once registered, the Smart Agent receives an Identity Certificate that is savedsecurely and used for all ongoing communications. The certificate is valid for one year and will berenewed automatically after six months to ensure continuous operation. While registered, the SmartAgent maintains one of the three authorization states relating to each license type by periodically reportinglicense usage to the CSSM or satellite:
• Authorized—If the associated Smart Account has enough licenses to reserve for the platform, itindicates to the Smart Agent that the features are fully authorized for use. The Smart Agent renewsthe authorization every 30 days.
• Out of Compliance—If the associated Smart Account does not have enough licenses to reserve forthe platform, it will indicate to the Smart Agent that the current feature use is Out of Compliance.Currently, Cisco UBE functionality is not limited in this state.
• Authorization Expired—If the Smart Agent is not able to communicate with the CSSM or satellitefor 90 days or more, authorization expires. Currently, Cisco UBE functionality is not limited in thisstate.
You can check the status by executing show license status command.

• Registration Expired—If the Smart Agent is not able to contact the CSSM or satellite before the IdentityCertificate expires, the platform returns to the unregistered state. The platform resumes the remainingevaluation period, only if available. After registration expires, registration to the CSSM or satellite usinga new registration ID token is required.
Each platform provides a single 90-day evaluation period. This period is persistent across the reloads.Note

Cisco Smart Software LicensingRegistration and License Compliance
Smart Software Licensing Task Flow for Cisco UBEThe process for using and validating Smart Licensing for Cisco UBE is common to the host platform. Tasksare summarized to highlight requirements specific to the Cisco UBE application.
Task Flow:
1. Obtain a registration ID token from the Virtual Account to which you wish to register the platform. SeeObtain the Registration ID Token, on page 4.
2. If using an internet proxy or Smart Software Manager satellite, update the Smart Licensing transportsettings. See Configure Smart Licensing Transport Settings , on page 4.
3. Register the Host Platform with CSSM or Satellite, on page 5.
4. Configure Cisco UBE Licensed Features, on page 6.
Obtain the Registration ID Token
Detailed Steps
1. Log in to your Smart Account in either CSSM or satellite.
2. Navigate to the Virtual Account with which you want to register the Cisco UBE.
3. Generate a registration ID token.
Configure Smart Licensing Transport Settings
Step 1 hostname hostname
Example:Device(config)# hostname cubecube(config)#
Ensure that hostname and the PID of the platform are not the same. For example, if the hostname of an ASR1006 routeris configured as "ASR1006", registration will be unsuccessful.
Step 2 ip name-server IP Address
Example:cube(config)# ip name-server 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.10
Configures valid DNS servers to ensure the correct resolution of the CSSM or satellite hostname.
Step 3 ip http client source-interface interface name
Example:cube(config)# ip http client source-interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0
Binds the platform HTTP client to the interface used to access the CSSM or satellite.
Cisco Smart Software Licensing4
Cisco Smart Software LicensingSmart Software Licensing Task Flow for Cisco UBE
Step 4 call-home
Example:cube(config)# call-home
Access call-home configuration to change the internet proxy and license server URL if necessary.
Step 5 http-proxy hostname proxy-port port-number
Example:cube(cfg-call-home)# http-proxy proxy.mybiz.com proxy-port 80
If necessary, configure a proxy-server for the platform when a direct HTTP connection to CSSM is not permitted.
Step 6 profile profile-name
Example:cube(cfg-call-home)# profile CiscoTAC-1
If registering to a Smart Software Manager satellite, edit the default profile (CiscoTAC-1) to configure the registrationURL.
Step 7 destination address http url
Example:cube(cfg-call-home-profile)# destination address http http://ssat.mybiz.com/Transportgateway/services/DeviceRequestHandler
If registering to a satellite, configure the registration URL. The default configuration must be used when registeringdirectly to CSSM. If an HTTP address has already been configured, it can be removed using no destination addresshttp all command.
Register the Host Platform with CSSM or SatelliteTo report license usage, the host platformmust be registered to either CSSM or satellite. The platform remainsin evaluation mode until registered.
Before you begin
1. Obtain the registration ID token from your Smart Account.
2. Configure Smart Licensing transport settings.
license smart register id_token id_token
Example:Device# license smart register id_token XXXXXXXXXTnVhaUZlRHorQjJERT0%3D
Registers the Cisco UBEwith the CSSM or satellite using a registration ID token that you obtain from your Smart Account.
Cisco Smart Software Licensing5
Cisco Smart Software LicensingRegister the Host Platform with CSSM or Satellite
Configure Cisco UBE Licensed Features
Step 1 enable
Example:
Device> enable
Enables privileged EXEC mode. Enter your password if prompted.
Step 2 configure terminal
Example:
Device# configure terminal
Enters global configuration mode.
Step 3 voice service voip
Example:Device(config)# voice service voip
Enters global VoIP cofiguration mode.
Step 4 mode border-element license [capacity sessions | periodicity {mins value | hours value | days value} ]
Example:Device(cfg)# mode border-element license capacity 25
Device(cfg)# mode border-element license perodicity days 15
• Effective from Cisco IOS XE Amsterdam 17.2.1r, the capacity keyword and sessions argument are deprecated. However, the keyword and argument are available in the Command Line Interface (CLI). If you try to configurelicense capacity using CLI, the following error message is displayed:
Error: CUBE SIP trunk licensing is now based on dynamic session counting. Static license capacity configuration has beendeprecated.
• Effective from Cisco IOS XE Amsterdam 17.2.1r, the periodicity keyword and [mins | hours| days] argument areintroduced. The periodicity keyword configures periodicity interval for license entitlement requests for Cisco UBE.If you do not configure license periodicity, the default license period of 7 days is enabled.
We recommend you to configure interval in days. Configuring interval in minutes or hours increases thefrequency of entitlement requests and thereby increases the processing load on Cisco Smart SoftwareManager (CSSM). License periodicity configuration of minutes or hours is recommended to be used onlywith Cisco Smart SoftwareManager On-Prem (formerly known as Cisco Smart SoftwareManager satellite)mode.

Smart License ConsumptionFromCisco IOSXEAmsterdam 17.2.1r onwards, Cisco UBE smart license consumption is based on dynamiccall counting.
Smart licenses are consumed only for active calls (In-Leg and Out-Leg) involving SIP Trunk. Cisco UBE lineside calls are not considered for license consumption. If calls involve media recording, forked call legs do notconsume extra licenses.
Cisco UBE requests entitlements only after completing the periodicity. If the peak license usage increases ordecreases within the set periodicity, then Cisco UBE waits until the end of periodicity to request entitlements.
For example, consider that the periodicity is set to 7 days and entitlements requested are 10. During the fourthday, if the license usage increases to 20, then the licenses reach “out of compliance” state. However, the callsstill work as the SIP service is still up. The license status “out of compliance” remains the same for the entireperiodicity. Cisco UBE requests new entitlement requests after completing the periodicity of 7 days.
Execute the show voice sip license command to view the smart license usage over time. For detailed informationon show voice sip license, see the Cisco IOS Voice Command Reference Guide.
Verify Smart License Operation for Cisco UBEUse the following commands to verify the platform registration and license usage:
• show cube status—Displays Cisco UBE license capacity and a count of calls that are blocked when theevaluation period has expired.

Cisco UBE High Availability Configurations
Smart Licensing with Cisco UBE Box-to-Box High AvailabilityBox-to-Box redundancy uses the Redundancy Group (RG) Infrastructure to form High Availability (HA) pairof platforms.
For Smart License configurations on the HA pair of platforms, see Smart Software Licensing Task Flow forCisco UBE, on page 4. When reporting license usage, the Smart Agent includes details of its HA group and,if it is in the active or standby state. Thus allowing the CSSM or satellite to group license requirements forthe HA pair.
Box-to-Box High Availability requires Cisco UBE Trunk Redundant Session licenses. From Cisco IOS XEAmsterdam 17.2.1r onwards, license usage is based on dynamic call counting.
Before Failover
• Register both the platforms in the High Availability configuration to the same Smart Virtual Account onCSSM or satellite.
• The CSSM or satellite authorizes license usage requests for both active and standby platforms.
• Only licenses that are requested by the active server are reserved from the license pool.
• Only the active platform runs the license request interval timer and requests licenses.
Cisco Smart Software Licensing16
Cisco Smart Software LicensingCisco UBE High Availability Configurations
After Failover
• The platform that switches to active mode reports license usage to the CSSM or satellite.
• The CSSM or satellite switches the license reservation to the new active server, ensuring that no additionallicenses are used from the Smart Account during failover.
• The new active platform starts a new license request interval timer. For example, if a request interval of5 days is configured and failover occurs after three days, the next request will occur 5 days later.
• When the originally active platform recovers, it is authorized as a standby server without consumingmore licenses from the Smart Account.
Verify Smart License Operation for Box-to-Box High AvailabilityYou can use all the commands that are given in the section Verify Smart License Operation for Cisco UBE,on page 7 to verify the licensing status in High Availability mode. The following commands specificallyreflect Smart License information that is related to Box-to-Box High Availability (HA):
• show cube status—Displays Cisco UBE license capacity and High Availability mode.

Smart Licensing with Cisco UBE Inbox High AvailabilityYou can configure a Cisco ASR 1000 Series Router platform with two Route Processors for Inbox HighAvailability using Stateful Switchover (SSO). In this configuration, one Route Processor is active while theother is in standby mode.
For Smart License configuration, see Smart Software Licensing Task Flow for Cisco UBE, on page 4. Onlythe active Route Processor in the SSO configuration reports license usage, so CSSM reserves one set oflicenses for the platform.
Inbox High Availability requires Cisco UBE Trunk Standard Session licenses.
Before Failover
• Smart License configuration is synchronized between the two Route Processors. Only the active RouteProcessor registers with CSSM or satellite.
• The CSSM or satellite authorizes license usage requests for the active Route Processor.
After Failover
• The Route Processor that switches to active mode, reports license usage to the CSSM or satellite.
• As the new report appears to come from the same device, the CSSM or satellite retains the originalreservation for the platform.
Verify Smart License Operation for Inbox High AvailabilityYou can use all the commands that are given in the section Verify Smart License Operation for Cisco UBE,on page 7 to verify the licensing status in the High Availability mode. The following commands specificallyreflect Smart License information that is related to Inbox High Availability (HA):
• show cube status—Displays Cisco UBE license capacity and High Availability mode.
