CIS 155 - Group 1 Final

The Grim House

Our plan for our site was to create a set of simple HTML5 pages that would give reviews, information, and clips for three movies that would be playing.

Ryan handled the home page and created most of the sites style and layout. Alex created the basic format for the movie pages. William and Robert each

created a movie page and added various improvements

The First Meeting

We had our first meeting on Wednesday and came up with the charter, the communication plan, and came up with roles.

Ryan tackled the start of the home page while Alex did the layout for the three other pages. Robert focused on documentation. William wasn't able to join but we sent him a copy of the meeting.

Initial Wireframe

The layout we decided on was pretty simple and we didn't feel that it needed to be revised once we got started.

ChallengesAs we progressed with our site we encountered several problems. The first was that it's hard to get a hold of people online. We didn't have our first meeting until Wednesday. Another was assigning roles. The project wasn't very large and there wasn't much work for some people to do. There was also the requirement that we all contribute to the code. We sometimes found ourselves working on the same files or uploading the same revision number and having to rehash the code to get it to work. We also forgot several things along the way and had to re-add them later, like the Modernizr compatibility script and the image map.

Another issue was that some people couldn't attend the meetings due to missed communications or prior obligations. We made sure to keep them informed of any changes we discussed and any progress. Using Skype made it easy since it saves the group conversation history.

The relatively short period of time we had to finish the project was also a problem. Some of us were finishing up other classes and had a lot to do. It also made missed communications and absences a big deal.

Lessons Learned

The big lesson we learned was that it's sometimes hard to work with a team. The concepts we learned were simple enough, but putting it together from scratch and having to communicate with 3 other people who were working on facets of the same site was a challenge. We often would up having one person do a big chunk of something and then the others filled in some of the details. That helped keep things consistent.
