Analyze the Learner The class I’ll be teaching is 4th graders from the ages of
9-10 years old with the class size of 24 with 11 boys and 13 girls.

Learning styles: visual and auditory
Main Objective Upon completion of the unit, students will identify key points
that contributed to the creation, hardships, and growth of West Virginia from the 18th century to modern day as well as comparing and contrasting the life of early West Virginia settlers with 100% accuracy through PowerPoint presentations, reading picture books and newspaper articles, and watching video footage.
Day by Day Breakdown Day One: Introduce early settlers; introduce various picture
books written by WV authors.
Day Two: Discuss how West Virginia becomes the 35th state
Day Three: Study WV geography and its impact upon transportation and culture
Day Four: Today’s West Virginia: discuss changing economic atmosphere and job opportunities for our citizens
Day Five: Students discuss and share PowerPoint presentations surrounding their favorite things about the state.
