October is Respect Life Month

Respect Life Committee Coordinator: Florence Scarinci

But like everything else in 2020, we have to do things differently. We are going to make the sign up virtual or contactless.

To participate in the program:

1. Name a preborn child (or children, since you can name more than one). You do not know this child and probably never will until you get to heaven and meet the child.

2. Then Either:

A. Email the name of the child to [email protected], with the words, “Spiritual Adoption Program” in the subject OR

B. Print the baby’s name CLEARLY on a piece of paper and include the words, “Spiritual Adoption Program” and drop it in the collection basket OR

C. Print the baby’s name CLEARLY on a piece of paper and include the words, “Spiritual Adoption Program", put the piece of paper in and envelope and Mail it to the attention of The Respect

Life Committee at Holy Spirit Church.

No matter which method you choose, there is no need to sign your name.

3. Finally, say the following prayer each day: “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much.

I beg you to spare the life of (baby’s name), the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted

who is in danger of abortion.” We hope that even more parishioners than last year will join the program. It’s free. It takes no time at all. It can work miracles.

“United States of

America, as long as

there is violence in the

womb, there will be

violence in your

streets.”

Saint Mother Teresa

of Calcutta

For many years, our parish has participated in the Spiritual Adoption Program. Begun by the Venerable Fulton J. Sheen, and based on the belief that prayer changes things, all it required was a nine-month commitment to say a simple prayer that took 30 seconds each day, asking Jesus, Mary, and Joseph to the change the hearts and minds of parents considering abortion.

In previous years, members of the Respect Life Committee would stand at the entrances to the church, handing out pink and blue cards which contained the prayer, asking parishioners to commit to the program and to personalize the prayer by picking a name for a preborn baby. Last year, over 200 parishioners joined the program and the names of those babies were printed in last week’s bulletin.
