WHERE IS GOD? Is this pandemic crisis a sign that are being abandoned by a loving and merciful God? Is this the beginning of the end? Is our anxiety, fear, isolation, and loneliness getting the best of us? In times like this, I hold in prayer these words: If you cant make it through the storm, dont tell me that Jesus is the captain of your ship. For me, this mantra is hope-filled and faith- filled. For Jesus accompanies us in our fears and in our living with a new lifestyle. With this Lenten experience not of our own choosing, we look to a conversion moment in our journey of faith that acknowledges more fully our powerlessness over so many dimensions of our lives, and yet we deeply trust that God holds us in the palm of His hands. For parishioners of Holy Spirit and St. Josephs, we are livestreaming our weekday Masses at 8:00 am and on Sunday at 9:00 am. You can access these Masses from the St. Josephs website: www.sjcpenfield.com. While we are not able to receive the Eucharist, which is at the center of our prayer life, the Lord is present to us and accompanies us in our prayer. Continuously and in all ways, we need to allow ourselves to be loved and saved by our merciful God. May we always and everywhere give thanks to the Lord our God. I invite you to pray the rosary with me each day at 3:00 pm. For those of you who are on Facebook, I invite you to friend me at JamesSchwartz. Then on Facebook live, we can connect with each other and pray the rosary. In times like these, we seek the intercession of Mary, the mother of Jesus and our mother, to lead us to Jesus our Lord and Savior. For me, the image of the Pieta -- the image of Mary holding in her arms her crucified Son – is so powerful. Even at that moment of intense grieving, Marys heart was not filled anger, rage, or fear. Her heart was filled with love for all of us. Even as we try to grasp and deal with this dark shadowin our lives, may we look to Mary as our example and intercessor that our hearts not be troubled. Please know that I hold you in special prayer during these days. Feel free to email me – [email protected] with any prayer requests or in any way I can serve in these days of social distancing. Have a safe and blessed day. Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors remember those who are most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose

between preserving their health or making their rent. May we who can care of our children

when their schools close remember those who have no options at all.

May we who have to cancel our trips remember those that have no place to go.

And may we who are losing our money in the market remember those who have no money at all.

May we who must settle in for a quarantine at home remember those who have no home.

During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God

to our brothers and sisters. Amen.

ONLINE COLLECTION BASKET

During these difficult and uncertain times your continued support of Church of the Holy Spirit is most

appreciated. We want to thank all of our parishioners who have continued to mail in their envelopes (1355 Hatch Rd Webster, NY 14580) and/or utilized our electronic option via www.churchofholyspiritwebster.org/give. Your generosity will enable us to continue serving you and the community.

What Can We Do?

Most importantly, pray. As Mass and activities are cancelled, be mindful of our Lenten disciplines and use the extra downtime to pray for those who are sick today, those who will become sick in the weeks ahead, and those who have gone home to the Lord and their loved ones. Rest assured, we will be praying for all of the parishioners of Holy Spirit and St. Joseph’s. May our gracious and loving God keep you healthy and safe. Amen.

Be reassured that your pastoral staff is working with Fr. Jim to get creative and identify ways we can reach out by telephone, keep in touch online, and provide resources for this most unusual spiritual journey we are all on. Prayer for Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the

Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You in my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my

heart. I embrace You as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
