St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, 4th St., Indiana

The St Vincent DePaul Thrift Store has reopened with limited hours: Monday through Saturday, 10AM to 2PM. In order to have a plan and process in place for accepting

donations that assures the safety of our volunteers and customers, we will not be accepting donations until at least July 13. We will inform you of our Donor Guidelines in future emails and updates. You will need to wear a mask in the store, and if you do not have one, we have them available. We will be sanitizing carts for your safety. We are excited to once again open and see all of our customers. The store is stocked and ready to go.

Donation Guidelines for St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store Indiana, PA (beginning after July 13)

1. Donations only during store hours: 10:00AM –2:00PM Monday thru Saturday

2. Do not leave donations before or after these hours.

3. Clothing and shoe donations must be bagged.

4. No clothing on hangers.

5. Housewares/small appliances must be in closed boxes except for large items (e.g., golf clubs, large artwork).

SVdP helps many in our community, but now they are asking for YOUR help: Since the store is still closed, SVdP cannot generate funds through shopping purchases. If you would be able to make a donation, no matter how large or small, it would be appreciated. Please consider taking this opportunity to help your Indiana County neighbors by sending a check to:

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 12, 2020

From Fr. Matthew’s Desk

One Year—Wednesday, July 1 marked my first anniversary here at Church of the Good Shepherd. It has been a very good year, but more “interesting” than I could have imagined. Thank you for your ongoing prayers and affirmations for me—I am grateful for all of you, and look forward to the time when we can be gathered together.

Some ongoing facilities work at Good Shepherd— When I arrived here a year ago, Fr. Willie brought several projects to my attention, and a few are now in progress. Two of the three windows in the Eucharistic Chapel Windows have now been restored—these windows had been at risk of falling apart because the adhesive used to hold in the stained glass was deteriorating. Also, the Rectory Roof is being replaced; it is the original roof from 1992, and had come to the end of its life.

I can control many things, but not the US Mail—While I had been fairly excited about the efficiency of mailing our bulletins via bulk mail, the last few weeks have left me a bit disappointed. For whatever reason, the bulletins that are processed through the mailing facility in Pittsburgh (all the 156XX zip codes) have been arriving on time, but at least twice the bulletins processed through Johnstown (all the 157XX zip codes) have arrived several days late. Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any good and practical ways to address this under the current arrangements we have with our bulletin publisher.

However, please do remember that the next Sunday’s bulletin is always posted on the parish website the Friday before. I r ealize that this does not address the problem for everyone, but anyone with internet access can look at the online version of the bulletin early—at least until the printed copy arrives in the mail.

Prayer Chain

A new Prayer Chain will be available the first Sunday of August. Please note the following updates as you hold all the sick and deceased friends of our parish in prayer:

Ongoing Prayer: Audrey Maudie

To add or remove someone from the Parish Prayer Chain, please call or email the Par ish Office.

Seeking Golden Wedding Jubilarians

Bishop Malesic desires to recognize all couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary during the calendar year 2020. The Jubilarians, their children, relatives or friends should contact the Parish Office to register couples for this recognition. Ideally, the Jubilarians will be invited to join the bishop for a special Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass to be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Even if circumstances may not permit participation in this Mass, all couples will receive a scroll signed by the Bishop commemorating their anniversary.
