Third Sunday of Easter

Introduction to the Liturgy of the Day

Easter Sunday was two weeks ago now, but Easter

Time extends for fifty days, giving us a lengthy period

to fully celebrate all the ways in which God brings new

life into the world. As trees bud and flowers bloom, as

days grow long and the weather warms, we glory in the

new life emerging around us. As is written in the

opening antiphon, “Cry out with joy to God, all the

earth.” Alleluia!

Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word

In the decades after the Resurrection, the Risen Lord

was portrayed in many different ways. In his Gospel,

John shows Jesus interacting with his disciples in the

flesh, as he had before his death and resurrection. The

author of Revelation visualizes Jesus in glory sur-

rounded by angels and otherworldly creatures. In Acts,

Luke portrays to Jesus always on the lips and in the

minds of the apostles. Listening to today’s readings,

think about how you visualize Jesus.

Introducción a la Liturgia de la Palabra

En las décadas posteriors a la resurrección el Señor re-

sucitado fue representado de muchas y diferentes

maneras. En el Evangelio Juan nos muestra a Jesús en

carne y hueso interactuando con sus discípulos, tal

como lo había hecho antes de su muerte y resurrección.

El autor del libro del Apocalipsis visualize a Jesús en la

Gloria, rodeado de ángeles y de otras creaturas etéreas.

En el libro de Hechos, Lucas describe a Jesús siempre

presente en los labios y en el pensamiento de los

apóstoles. Al escuchar las lecturas de hoy piensa cómo

visualizes tú a Jesús.

ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS FOR

SEPTEMBER CLASSES

Faith Formation Office is accepting Registrations

for classes to start in September of 2019. Classes are at the

school building located at 86-37 53rd Avenue and are held on

Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., from September

through May.

A new registration must be completed for all present stu-

dents as well as new students to attend our program. Parents

must bring the following documents when registering:

- Baptism Certificate

- Birth Certificate, if child is not baptized

- A Parish Transfer letter is required if child attended

another parish

interested in volunteering for the Faith Formation Program,

The NYPD Summer Youth Police Academy is one of sev-

eral innovative, effective programs that the Department

provides for young people in New York City. The program

gives young individuals between the ages of 10 and 15 the

opportunity to train with police officers during the summer.

Participants attend the Youth Police Academy in the bor-

ough of their residence, five days a week for six weeks,

from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Police Officers conduct

classes that include lectures, role-plays, and demonstrations

in the area of law, behavioral science, drug prevention and

gang resistance. The program also provides participants

with lunch, uniform shirts, and field trips.
