May Procession ~ Mother’s Day ~
May 8 after the 9:00 am Mass
All are invited to participate in a procession in honor
of our Blessed Mother
We will gather together in the parish hall where all receive carnations. At this time, one of our First
Communicants will be selected to crown the statue of Mary. We then process with the accompaniment of
our Children’s Choir around the church to where the statue of Mary is situated at the entrance of the Parish
Center; in case of rain we will process into the church. With hymns and flowers parishioners gather around
the statue and place their flowers in vases surrounding the Blessed Virgin. This devotion to our Blessed
Mother also provides an opportunity for our First Communicants to once again wear the special clothes they
wore when they received their First Holy Communion.
What a beautiful way to acknowledge Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the Church.
As we do this we also recognize all mothers living and deceased; as well as those who hope to become
mothers.

Fr. Tom Reilly
From Fr. Tom Reilly
Congratulations to Joseph Zalewski on receiving the
Sacrament of Confirmation
The Very Reverend Gerard Petringa, the Episcopal Vicar for the North Region conferred
the Sacrament of Confirmation on Joseph and twenty nine other adults. The Regional
Adult Confirmation was celebrated at the Church of the Incarnation in Melrose. Joseph’s
aunt Jeanette was Godmother for his Baptism and now she is the sponsor for Joseph’s
Confirmation. Fr. Reilly and Deacon Al were present for this special time in Joseph’s life.
We offer a course for all adults aged 18 and over wishing to be Confirmed in the Catholic Faith. This course
begins in January and continues for an eight week period, culminating in the North Regional Adult
Confirmation. If you wish more information on this program please call the rectory.
Dear Friends,
On Saturday, April 9th, our Episcopal Vicar, Very Rev. Gerard Petringa, confirmed 117 members of our
Confirmation II class. We congratulate them for their dedication and hard work. Confirmation II was a
twenty-five week program. We are most grateful to Deacon Tam and Denise Miedico who took over the
Confirmation program last year. They were supported by a very dedicated team of Catechists. We thank
them for the generous sharing of their Catholic faith
We all hope they continue to grow in their Catholic faith and become active members of our Church. Jesus
has blessed them with many gifts to share with neighbors.
You are remembered in my Masses and prayers!

Christ’s Hands Apple Drive
Weekend of April 30/May 1
Our parish has an Apple Drive the months that have 5 weekends in them. There are four apple drives each
year. I would like to explain why the apples are important. The apples are donated to Bread & Roses in
Lawrence. Bread & Roses serves over 300 people hot meals five nights a week, including a good helping of
dignity. The food comes from many churches and organizations and from what the staff cooks themselves
with donated food items, but never is there any fruit donated. The apples are a healthy alternative to the
usual cookies and cakes that are donated, especially for the children. Also, the apples are a good item to
pocket for the next day in case hunger strikes before the free evening meal.
I am asking our very generous parish for help with this worthwhile cause. The next Apple Drive is the
weekend of April 30 & May 1st. Please put your apples in the collection boxes around the church. Thanks
again for your much needed support.

Today’s Gospel Reflection
Paul and Barnabas tell the other disciples, “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the
kingdom of God.” the Church is undergoin many hardships today, too. What will turn the tide? In 51 words
from today’s gospel - a bit longer than a Tweet - Jesus gives a simple command: “...love one another. As I
have loved you, so you also should love one another.” This may not be as simple as it sounds. Read carefully:
“As I have loved you…” Not just love another, but love as He loves. This can be hard work, and it may take
practice, but here is the payoff, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one
another.
