May 31, 2020
A FEW WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR
Last week, the two bishops of our New York Metropolitan area, Cardinal Timothy Dolan and
our own Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, held a press conference in NYC to announce the “slow and
gradual re-opening of Catholic Churches both in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of
Brooklyn.” As both bishops pointed out, we are going to move slowly on this gradual re-opening
because the health, safety and well-being of our people is paramount. Here at Saint Saviour,
beginning Monday, June 1st, our church will be open ONLY for private prayer and devotion from
9:00am until 12:00 noon from Monday through Friday. Our church will be reconfigured in such a
way that ONLY 10 PEOPLE AT A TIME will be permitted inside church to pray, and they MUST
practice social distancing. In addition, anyone who wishes to come into church MUST WEAR A
FACE MASK! You will not be permitted into the church if you are not wearing a face mask!
Within the pages of this week’s parish bulletin, as well as on our parish website, you will find ALL
the particular details that have been set forth by our Diocese and which will be strictly enforced
here at Saint Saviour and in other churches throughout the Diocese regarding this “soft opening.”
Please bear in mind that at this time, there will be NO PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF
EUCHARIST. Both Cardinal Dolan and Bishop DiMarzio have extended the dispensation for
Catholics from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays. Based on a comment made by Cardinal
Dolan at that Press Conference, it might still be a few weeks before we resume the celebration of
public Mass – yet when we do resume – I can assure you there will be even more directives we will
need to adhere to in order to ensure the health and safety of EVERYONE who chooses to come and
pray/worship with us. But for now, please be sure to read carefully the checklist on the following
page of this week’s parish bulletin in case you plan on making a visit to our church for private
prayer beginning Monday, June 1st, between the hours of 9:00am and 12:00 noon Monday through
Friday. The church will remain closed Saturday and Sunday for the time being. **Once again,
please keep in mind that NO DATE HAS BEEN SET YET for the limited celebrations of both
Daily and Sunday Mass – nor have any dates been set yet by the Diocese of Brooklyn for the
celebrations of First Holy Communion OR Confirmation!
Finally, please try your best to continue submitting your weekly offering envelopes if you are
financially able to do so. Simply drop your offering envelope in the Rectory Mailbox. With the
passing of each week, fewer and fewer donations are being brought in and this is beginning to hurt
us financially. Even with all our expenditures down, there are a few bills we cannot put off paying
much longer. I am so grateful to all our parishioners who keep dropping their envelopes in the
mailbox every week. If you haven’t had the opportunity yet in these last weeks to bring in your
Weekly Offering, NOW would be a really great time to do so and it will be immensely appreciated.
Also, Father Kevin and I would like to thank all those people who have sent us cards, goodies, food
and notes of well-wishes and hoping we are doing well. Thankfully, both Father Kevin and I are
well and working harder than ever trying to get things ready for when we are all able to be together
again with you in church – hopefully sooner rather than later! God Bless You All!!
Please know that you are ALL in my daily prayers and I remember you all every single day
when I go over to church and celebrate Mass.
Father Frank
