Prayer of Pope Francis for

Protection and Help

O Mary, You always shine on our path as a sign of

salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,

who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.

You…know what we need, and we are sure You

will provide, so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon Himself our suf-

ferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection.

Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of

those of us who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger,

O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Seventh Sunday of Easter or The Ascension of the Lord

May 24, 2020 “After Jesus had been taken up into heaven the apos-tles returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet which is near to Jerusalem…they went to the upper room where they were staying. All these devot-ed themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.” Before we take leave of the month of May, dedicated to mothers, and our mother Mary, may I find a moment to look at this first community, united with her in prayer. Her last words in the bible, spoken at the Cana wedding, ‘Do whatever he tells you’ is reflected in her life and directed to our living as disciples. How blessed we are to have her known and loved, with many traditions in our cultures, our art and devotion. Je-sus gave her to us as our Mother before He breathed His last. Like the apostle John, may we take her into our homes, our hearts, for she is the gift that Jesus gave us.

CORPUS CHRISTI FOOD DRIVE 2020 The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted those living in pov-erty the most and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson's

3 Food Pantries (Father English Center, Paterson; Hope House, Dover; and Partnership for Social Services, Franklin)

are giving out more food than ever before. Most months, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson gives out food to 5,000 - 7,000 people at their 3 food pantries. In April of 2020, this number practically doubled, as they helped over 11,000 individuals who are feeling the direct economic impact of COVID-19.Bishop Serratelli has authorized a Catholic Charities Diocesan-wide food collection in all parishes. This year, the drive has gone virtual, and you can shop online and have items directly shipped to Catholic Charities Food Pantries. Visit www.ccpaterson.org/corpus for more information and visit www.yougivegoods.com/ccpaterson-fooddrive2020 to find our parish, and shop for our pantries in need. You may also email: [email protected] or call (973) 737-2077 ext.403 with any questions or to donate food directly to Catholic Charities Food Pantries.

A special prayer on Memorial Day -- As we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day, we think of how they have followed in the footsteps of your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please hold our servicemen and women in your strong arms. Cover them with

your sheltering grace and your presence as they stand in the gap for our protection. We also remember the families of our troops. We ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes, and we pray your peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives. May the members of our armed forces be supplied with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord's mighty power to accom-plish each task. Let our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced, remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors remember those most vulnerable.

May those who have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or

making their rent. May those who have the flexibility to care for our children when

schools close remember those who have no options. May we who have to cancel a trip remember those who have no

safe place to go. May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market remember those who have no margin at all. May those who settle for quarantine at home remember those

who have no home. As fear grips our country, let us choose love during this time

when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other, let us find ways to be the loving embrace to God and our

neighbor.

Prayer by Cameron Wiggins Bellm

The days and months ahead may be inconvenient or may turn out to be really trying. Whatever comes our way, this is a time to prac-tice our faith that we are united as one body in Christ, that we are invited to uphold each other in prayer, and that we are called to be present to

each other either through listening or through reaching out. Weekly envelopes support the Church by assisting in the payment of bills and by keeping our Church fiscally sound. During this time of having to cancel Masses because of the coronavirus, you may drop-off your collection envelopes in the mail slot of the Parish House or mail them to 32 St. James Place, Totowa, 07512. Everyone’s envelopes assist in the health and prosperi-ty of our parish. We thank you for your continued generosity and kind-ness to St. James. Stay safe and healthy!
