In your prayers…
Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amen.
We pray for all those who are sick, especially:
We pray for the deceased members of our parish
family who recently died especially:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

THANK YOU!
The St. Mel Men’s Club and Father’s Guild is grateful to all the parishioners who joined them in celebrating their 30th Anniversary. Over 150 parishioners and friends attended the Mass and dinner. A special word of thanks to A&S Nursery for donating the plants that adorned the tables, to Senator Liu for donating a beautiful gift basket, and to Marino’s for the gift of a $200 gift certificate. The tasty hors d’oeuvres and delicious food was provided by Marino’s. Thank you to Councilman Peter Vallone for presenting to the Club a proclamation recognizing the 30 years of service the club has rendered the Flushing Whitestone Community. Thank you Father Fonti, and our past pastors/moderators: Monsignor McGuirl, Father Sauer, Father Turczany, and Father Cowan all of whom concelebrated, with Fr. Barozzi, the special Mass for this occasion. For those who were not able to join us you can watch the Mass at “stmels-queens.org”. Click on

Are you interested in the Catholic faith? Have you been coming to church for a while but are not Catholic? Have you been baptized Catholic or validly baptized in another Christian denomination and wish
to be fully initiated into the Catholic faith through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Communion?
If you answered yes, to any of these questions, we invite you to look deeper into the Catholic faith through a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA. It is also adapted for older children. Our parish offers a set of RCIA and RCIC sessions to share with others the truths of the Catholic faith and the fellowship of our church family.
If you are interested in joining this special journey of faith, contact the Office of Faith Formation at [email protected] or at 718-461-9840.

St. Mel’s Memorial Candles Remember Your Loved Ones
An Annual Memorial Candle can brighten your intentions all year long.
Purchasing an Annual Memorial Candle to Honor a loved one or a special
intention is a wonderful way to express our sentiments. When we go,
leaving the burning candle behind, we are reminded that our prayers and
intentions burn before the Lord unceasingly.
You can have a perpetual memorial for about .50 cents per day. The
annual offering for each candle is $200, which supports our parish.
If you would like to reserve a memorial candle, please fill out the form
below and return it along with payment to the Rectory. For more
questions, please contact the office at (718) 886-0201.

One Hand Helping Another
The Unsung Siblings Foundation provides scholarships and grants to recognize the effort and sacrifice that the family members of the special needs and Veteran communities make every day. The Foundation was inspired within one of St. Mel’s own, The Ryan Family. Jonathan Ryan was diagnosed with Autism 18 years ago and ever since, his two brothers, Michael and Daniel Thomas have given up so much to ensure his success. And before his untimely passing earlier this year, Christopher Ryan (Jonathan’s uncle) dedicated his life to serving our Veterans, in particular those who were homeless or suffering from substance abuse issues. Accordingly, the Unsung Siblings Foundation distributes funding to individuals or relevant charities and non-profits to ensure that unsung heroes like Christopher, Michael, and Daniel Thomas are able to receive the education and opportunities they so rightly deserve.
A majority of the Unsung Sibling board members are St. Mel’s Alumni. One board member, Raymond Salamone, who has served with the NYPD for over 25 years, will be running his 3rd and final NYC Marathon in honor of his childhood friend Christopher Ryan. All funds raised by Ray will go to the Unsung Siblings Foundation and 100 percent will be donated to various charities including Paws of War, an organization that professionally trains shelter dogs and places them with Veterans with PTSD or other service related issues. If you would like to donate to Ray’s run or learn more about The Unsung Siblings Foundation please visit us at www.unsungsiblingsfoundation.org.
