MARCH 3, 2013: THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

Cari amici in Cristo, La Santa Sede è ora vacante. Attendiamo ora il

risultato del Conclave (letteralmente, "con chiave", chiuso in). Ciò avverrà a breve.

Dear Friends in Christ,

The Holy See is now vacant. We now await the out-come of the conclave (literally, “con chiave”, locked in). This will take place shortly. In the meantime, you will doubtless notice that during the Eucharistic Prayer, we do not mention the Pope because Rome is sede vacante (literally, the seat is empty). By the way, the word “See” in reference to the “Holy See” derives from sede, the Latin word for seat.

There are naturally many questions about what it means to have a retired Pope. We know that he will be continued to be called Benedict XVI and that his title is Pope Emeritus (a pope having completed his service). In any case, let us continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide the Cardinals in the election of the new Holy Fa-ther, their most important duty.

Dom Ambros, who is one of our confrères, is currently giving talks for Lent based on the Wisdom of the retired Pope, Benedict XVI. Unfortunately we cannot host him for the last two evening sessions of his talks – he was here on Friday – because our church had already two Me-morial Masses on Monday and Tuesday. Do, however, go and listen to his presentations at Saint Patrick, which he offers twice daily after the 9:00 am and at 7:30 pm.

This Wednesday from 7:00-9:00 pm we will be hold-ing another Open House at All Saints for prospective families. Please see the bulletin for further details. We are making many changes and want your children and grand-children to benefit!

A few remainders: (1) the Fifth Annual Catholic Men’s Conference will be held at Holy Trinity High School in Hicksville on Saturday, March 9th. The conference fea-tures Mass with the Bishop, speakers and the chance to go to Confession. This is a great opportunity to grow in love of God and the Church. For info: www.catholicmensministry.net

(2) The Night of Recollection on Wednesday, March 13th, with Father Charles Mangano and his sister, Laura Mangano. With songs, prayers and testimonies, this eve-ning offers a beautiful way in which to enter into the deeper meaning of Lent. Please encourage family and friends to this event, which is open to everyone.

(3) All Saints’ theatre production, Beauty and the Beast, will be performed at Saint Hyacinth on Friday and Saturday evenings (March 15th and 16th) and Sunday af-ternoon (after the parade). (4) On Monday, March 18th, Bishop Murphy confirms our fifty-one candidates at 4 pm.
