As most of you have heard or read, the person responsible for the burglary of our Church on New Year’s Eve has been apprehended. It puts us all on notice that a person who blended among those who attended that Mass could have not been noticed. We each need to be aware of our surroundings. We should not leave our personal items unattended in Church. We should also observe that persons who appear to be in places where they should not be, such as the altar or stairways, hallways or lingering outside of the perimeter of the Church property or Rectory, might be cause for concern and should therefore be reported to a priest or member of the Church staff. It is important in the times in which we live to always adhere to the direction – If You See Something – Say Something. It is better to investigate something before it becomes a statistic. Pilgrimage of NY 2016-Year of Mercy: The top of Manhattan to the bottom of Manhattan! We will be walking the length of Manhattan, visiting churches in honor of the Year of Mercy! Plus we will visit two churches that have designated Holy Doors for this jubilee year: St Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine and St Patrick’s Cathedral. This walk is a total of 13.5 miles! Saturday, April 16, 2016 (Rain date: Saturday, September 17, 2016) 9:00am-Opening Prayers at The Shrine of St Frances Xavier Cabrini, 701 Fort Washington Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10040. 6:15pm-Pilgrims’ Mass at The Shrine of St Elizabeth Ann Seton, 7 State Street, New York, N.Y. 10004. THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

“Rolling up the scroll he gave it to the assistant and sat down. All in the synagogue had their eyes fixed on him.

Then he began by saying to them, ‘Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.’”

Jesus returns to his hometown, a person of great fame and reputation, surely many went to welcome and receive Him. The prophet Isaiah summarizes His mission to bring glad tidings to the poor, seek freedom for captives, restore sight, and proclaim a year of favor from the Lord. We have just begun a jubilee year, a Year of Mercy. Pope Francis has taught us that mercy is God’s greatest gift. We are told that ‘Jesus Christ is the face of God’s mercy.’ Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth. In designating this year for this purpose, Pope Francis is calling people to the path of conversion. As missionary disciples we have the opportunity to invite others to have hope, a fundamental theme of the Holy Father. At a time when refugees and asylees are found on every continent, we are able to assist them. Those blinded by sin and selfishness can open their eyes, when they see true disciples living a vibrant faith.

Like the people of Nazareth we refocus and place our eyes on Jesus. He speaks to us of Himself and our role in His mission.

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intentions for January 2016: Universal: Interreligious Dialogue – That sincere dialogue among men and women of different faiths may produce the fruits of peace and justice. Evangelization: Christian Unity – That by means of dialogue and fraternal charity and with the grace of the Holy Spirit, Christians may overcome divisions.

Local pilgrimages to any of the five locations of a Holy Door within the Archdiocese may be made throughout the Year of Mercy. They are: Saint Patrick’s Cathedral (New York City) Basilica of Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral (New York City) Saint Frances Cabrini Shrine (New York City) National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Middletown) National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians (Stony Point) Pilgrimage to Rome with Cardinal Dolan: Apr 1-8 (www.petersway.com) Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C., with Cardinal Dolan, Saturday: October 15, 2016
