A MESSAGE FROM FR TOM PARISH & COMMUNITY

Greeters for Easter The Welcoming Committee extends an invitation to all families and individuals of the parish to join in greeting Mass-goers on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. No experience is needed and a brief training will be provided. Please join us for a fun, one-time opportunity to welcome those attending these holy day Masses. Questions? Visit our website at sjolc.org/welcoming or contact Eric Cooley, pastoral minister, in the parish office.

Food Collection Next Week Next weekend, April 6 & 7 is our regularly scheduled food collection for the poor. Please bring in non-perishable food items for those in need. Sponsored by the Christian Services Committee.

Springtime “Bakery” – April 6 &7 Prep your batters and doughs; preheat your ovens and export some enticing aromas! Then bring your cookies, muffins, pies, cakes, pastries, breads and candies “to market” (the Gathering Space) after 3 pm on Saturday, April 6. Plan to linger after Mass that weekend to purchase some sweet delights for home! Sponsored by Ste. Anne’s CCW.

Lenten Service Project Once again our Christian Services Committee and our School are collecting toothbrushes and toothpaste for children in Guatemala. Simply purchase items and deposit them in the boxes located at the entrances to the church between now and April 7 or drop items off at our school. Our goal is to collect over 2,000 toothbrushes and 2,000 boxes of toothpaste. Thank you!

Attention High School Students! Calling High School seniors! Can you use a little help with future tuition? Applications for Ste. Anne CCW Scholarship are available in the Gathering Space Kiosk. Applications are due to St. John’s Parish Office by April 15, 2019 – don’t delay!

As we continue our Lenten journey, please consider this important aspect of the practice of our faith… mainly the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession. Confession can be the moment in which we experience God’s unconditional love most intensely! With integrity, openness, humility, and sincerity we approach God in the confessional with a deep confidence and conviction that Our Lord loves us no matter what, no matter how we have sinned and will forgive us quickly and easily when we are truly sorry. To lay it all out there can actually feel refreshing, certainly humbling…but after we are done, we can feel lighter and unburdened by all that junk we have been carrying around. Remember that Our Lord wants us to be happy and free from everything that binds us to the slavery of sin. God desires our friendship! He wants us to be part of his heavenly family, while still here on earth. That means that we work hard at living the way He wants us to. Prayer is the key to everything. A deeper prayer life as God asks from us, will create a place for His Presence to flow in and through us out into our families, friendships, work place, community and Church. An authentic prayer life will lead us into frequenting the sacraments especially Confession which is a powerful tool to gain for us deeper humility (the foundation to the spiritual life). This Lenten season let us continue to grow into a deeper conversion of heart, becoming more unselfish, more self-giving. We are a people of joy! Believe it or not, Confession will get us there. Peace, Fr. Tom

    PARISH & COMMUNITY

The call to discipleship - In Baptism, the Sacrament of faith, and as strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation, all Christians are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Who is a Christian disciple? “One who responds to Christ’s call, follows Jesus, and shapes his or her life imitation of Christ’s.”

Who is a Christian steward? “One who receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord.”

Totus Tuus - Vacation Bible School The program calls upon college students and Seminarians from across the United States to carry out this mission. Those hired are trained and put onto teams of four (two men and two women) to go out into a parish for a week, putting on a "parish mission" in order to teach the faith and inspire the young. They do this for six weeks. In addition to trying to communicate our faith and translate that into daily life, we also strive to foster Christian vocations. It is our firm belief that vocations, callings from God, can only be heard and responded to if one is living a Christian life. We strive to foster this, first and foremost, in our teachers by providing them with an understanding of the faith, a strong prayer life, and an opportunity to witness to their faith. The teachers sign a “covenant” in which they promise to be open to God’s will for them and actively to discern it. Because the teachers are striving to live an authentic Christian life and are actively discerning their vocation, they can better help the youth to do the same. Parents, Totus Tuus (like Vacation Bible School) is returning again this summer from June 16-21 for grades 1-6 (M-F, 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM) and grades 7-12 (S-Th, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM). Register now at sjolc.org/totus-tuus-gr-1-12.
