The desert and the parched land will exult, the steppe will rejoice and bloom.

2/Third Sunday of Advent
Third Sunday of Advent w December 15th, 2019Isa 35:1-6a,10 w James 5:7-10 w Matthew 11:2-11
As our parish celebrates Our Lady of Guadalupe this week-end, I thought it fitting to share with you a prayer to her from the October 13th pastoral letter, “Night Will Be No More” written by Bishop Mark Joseph Seitz of El Paso. He decided to write this letter after the massacre or matan-za in his diocese this past August that left 22 dead, injured dozens and traumatized a binational community. Exploring the theme of racism and white supremacy, he hopes to help his diocese and by extension all of us to discern new paths of justice and mercy in order to rediscover reasons for hope. As we await the birth of our sa-vor, the Light of the World, let us pray this beautiful prayer to his mother for the peo-ple of El Paso and all peoples everywhere who so need her help and protection. You can find the Bishop’s entire letter at
https://www.hopeborder.org/nightwillbenomore. O Mary of Guadalupe, our Mother,Consolation of our frail humanity,
We need you in this moment of pain,Be with us here in El Paso.
You who accompany us on the journey of life,Guiding us in joyful dance,
Be a bridge between heaven and earth,Between us your sons and daughters.
Defend us from what would devour us,And take away the promise of new life,With arms of war and words that kill,With racism personal and structural,With massacres against innocents.
All of us are daughters and sons of the Most High,Equal in dignity, deserving of respect,
Worthy of a place on this earth,Worthy of the call to build your Temple of Justice.
With your protection and inspiration, We will write the next chapter of our history,
Weaving together a new beautiful tapestry, Across these great borderlands.
Ask your beloved Son, dear Mother,To bring the dawn of a new day,
To drive away the night,A day when sorrow and mourning will flee,
Because they can only threaten us with Resurrection. We place all this in your loving hands,
To bring to Christ, your Son and our Savior.

Immigration SubcommitteeMigration Facts:
During Fiscal Year 2018, 396,448 people were booked into the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. A daily average of 42,188 immigrants were held by ICE in that year. In addition, over 12,000 children were housed in facilities under the supervision
of the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s program.Common misconceptions hold that people migrate to the
U.S. to get rich or take advantage of the country. In truth, they are escaping from poverty, violence and persecution. Unaccompanied children, many from Hon-
duras, El Salvador and Guatemala, arrive in the U.S. fleeing gang recruitment.
For Reflection:"When the image of the Virgin [of Guadalupe] appeared on the tilma [cloak] of Juan Diego, it was the prophecy of an embrace: Mary’s embrace of all the peoples of the vast expanses of America – the peoples who already lived there, and those who were yet to come. Mary’s embrace showed what America – North and South – is called to be: a land where different peoples come together; a land prepared to accept human life at every stage, from the mother’s womb to old age; a land which welcomes immi-grants, and the poor and the marginalized, in every age.
A land of generosity."- Pope Francis
