Dear Friends in our Lord Jesus: I am greatly touched by the number of people who are attending our daily Masses. It shows how people are responding to the Lenten call for conversion. Sister Betty Larson, OSB and Julie Ortloff have been contacting parishioners who might be interested in training to become minis-ters of Word and Communion services in our parishes. So far, we have about 15 who have responded positively to the invita-tion. Once we have had our training session and assign ministers, this will allow for weekly services at Arlington Place and Sereni-ty on Seventh and will begin having daily services at St. John the Baptist. I believe that having the possibility of Eucharist and Word more often will strengthen the bonds between our parish communities and our elderly parishioners, as we currently only offer services once a month. As we make our Lenten journey, I look forward to Easter and the Mass changes in St. Joseph, which will allow me to celebrate more often at St. John the Baptist parish. In case you have for-gotten, Masses on Sundays in St. Joseph will be at 8:30 and 10:30 am starting the first week of Easter. There will be no change to Saturday night Mass.

Fr. Jerome Tupa, OSB, Pastor

In Loving Remembrance— Please remember in your prayers those who have recently died:

• Bernice Kluempke Mother of Mary Kay Huhne

“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.”

Second Sunday in Lent

Gospel Reflection for March 8th

“This is my beloved Son…listen to Him.”

These words from today’s Gospel call each of us to listen and hear what God is saying to us. In the first reading God calls Abraham to leave his country to a new land. In the second read-ing, Paul is writing to Timothy, reminding him that God has saved us and called us to a holy life. The Gospel is the story of the Transfiguration where Peter, James and John witness the ap-pearance of Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.

When the disciples heard the words, “this is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased; listen to him,” they were afraid, but Jesus reassured them. He told them not to tell anyone what they had experienced on the mountain until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.

What does this mean for us, especially during these days of Lent? Where do you meet Jesus each day? It could be in a neighbor, a friend, or even someone you do not like! What is the message God is giving you through this person? Are you called to look with positive eyes, or even do something special for that person? This week try to recognize Jesus in those you meet and listen for God’s message through them!

Sister Betty Larson, OSB, Pastoral Ministry

Week of Prayer to Saint Joseph—Mar. 13-19 The annual week of prayer will take place March 13-19. As protec-tor of the Universal Church, bring your needs and prayers to St. Jo-seph who is your special interces-sor for concerns including mar-riage and family life, employment and profession, protection and guidance. Lord God, you gave us St. Joseph as the loving guardian of the Holy Family that met with many sor-rows and joys. As you strengthened him amid the weariness and suffer-ing he endured when he found no room in the inn, strengthen us in our disappointments and sorrows. As you gave him joy at the birth of the world’s Redeemer in a manger, enliven our lives with your love and care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father. . . Hail Mary. . . Glory Be. . . St. Joseph, pray for us.

Donations for Elevate (formerly Birthline) During the Lenten season there is an opportunity to help support Elevate, a Christian-based organization located in Waite Park that provides education, mentoring, support services and referrals to anyone affected by an unintended crisis pregnancy. On the list of needs are diapers and wipes, summer clothing in sizes NB-24 mos., personal care items for women, gift cards to Walmart and Target, and cash donations. There is a “donation station” in the Heritage Hall gathering space.

The Love of the Saints The St. Joseph Knights of Columbus are proud to offer a special book for each family in our Parish. It is from author Matthew Kelly called "Rediscover the Saints." We feel this is a great book to read during the season of spiritual renewal, Lent. In this book, there are twenty-five questions that will change your life. The book will be available on the Lenten Resource Table and after the Easter Masses. May you know of the greater love of Jesus, the Angels and Saints, and may the Paschal Mystery of Jesus' life, death and resurrection fill your hearts with peace. Opportunity to join the Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus are looking for Catholic men age 18 and older to join our great council and organization. Membership offers men and their families the opportunity to deepen their faith, have access to financial protection and planning, serve oth-ers in the parish and community, and help defend their values. To learn more about us, you can visit with members of our coun-cil after the masses Mar. 14 and 15. The next opportunity to join is later this month, where you will learn about the past, present and future of the Knights of Colum-bus. Watch the bulletin for the details. For more information, call Allen Gill at 291-5701 or Alan Glatzel at 250-5988 or Mark Glatzel at 267-1485. You can also go online to KofC.org/JoinUs You are born a Man. You become a Knight.
