LAST WEEKEND’S ATTENDANCE - 11/8/2015

Adults: 662…...…. Children: 210..……. / Total……..872

“From the Desk of Father Jonathan” One of the most beautiful things for me as a priest is to hear the stories of people who have come back to the church after being away for a long time. Twice, last week, one of our parishioners presented to me someone whom they had invited to mass. The beaming faces of the invited persons were un-forgettable. One person was new to the neighborhood and the other was a long-time resident. The first had never been inside the church. The other gentleman stopped attending mass fifteen years ago. They came to mass last week because someone had the courage to invite them.

When is the last time you invited someone to come with you to mass? It's not easy, I know, especially, as some people will say "no". But I assure you, when the first person says "yes", it will be well worth it.

I am trying to walk the neighborhood at least once a day. If you see me and you know of someone whom I should meet in order to invite them to the church, please stop me and let me know who they are. I will go with you to meet them or I will go on my own, if you think that would be best.

Let's not forget: all the work that we are doing on the physical plant of the church means nothing if it isn't to bring more people to Christ and to the sacraments.

Be not afraid! Go out and be a missionary to our neighborhood!

Father Jonathan

REFLECTING ON GOD’S WORD Sunday Gospel: Mark 13: 24-32

As human beings we like solving puzzles about the world and the universe we inhabit. The Church sees no contradiction between the scientific Big Bang theory and the creation stories. The Genesis account in the Bible is about a mystery—the mystery of our existence and our relationship to God, the creator and sustainer of life. A mystery in this sense is a sacred reality that goes beyond logical explanations. Another mystery is the question of when and how it will all end. Yet in today’s Gospel, Jesus states quite clearly that no one can puzzle out when that end will be. Only God knows. In the meantime our time is better spent on living our lives well now. As today’s Psalm says, “You will show me the path to life, / fullness of joys in your presence, / the delights at your right hand forever” (Psalm 16:11). Isn’t that promise enough?

Living Stewardship Now

Life is a book in volumes three: The past, the present, and the yet-to-be. The past is written and laid away, the present we’re writing every day, and the last and best of volumes three is locked from sight - God keeps the key.

Inutile insistere (At 1,6-7) e chiedere: “Perché?”.
