potential adjective po·ten·tial \pə-ˈten(t)-shəl

1. existing in possibility : capable of development into actuality noun po·ten·tial

1. something that can develop or become actual If there is one word that, in my opinion, best describes the ministry of Southside Baptist Church this is it. I truly believe we have unlimited potential to have an impact for eternity that none of us are familiar with. God has uniquely positioned us and provided us with a location, with facili-ties and with resources that most local church ministries only dream of. We are geographically located in a community with scores of families:

young married families, families with teenagers, empty nesters and senior adult couples.

God has provided us with first-rate facilities that are more than adequate to minister to several hundred more people.

Our congregation has shown a faithfulness and generosity in giving that allows us to minister locally, nationally and globally.

The challenge before us is reaching our potential and maximizing the oppor-tunity God has given us. Potential in and of itself is great but, by definition, it remains only a possibility until it is capitalized on. As of today, we are not capi-talizing on our potential. There are hundreds of families in our community that do not know Christ as Savior and who do not have a church to call home. We can and we must reach these individuals and families – the Gospel compels us to do so. Beginning on February 12 and concluding February 26 during the Sunday School hour I am scheduling a “town-hall” style meeting with the various age groups of our church. My goal for this time with you is three-fold: 1. I want to share my heart concerning our ministry and the potential impact we can have if we will begin to capitalize on the opportunities before us 2. I want to establish a transparent line of communication between pastor and congregation 3. I want to hear from you and your perspective of our ministry The schedule will be as follows: February 12th – 20’s and 30’s (meet in the fellowship hall) February 19th – 60’s + (meet in the worship center) February 26th – 40’s and 50’s (meet in the fellowship hall) Please make these meetings a priority in your family’s schedule. We will begin promptly at 9:15 am and conclude with a short devotional. Our potential is great but it remains potential until it is capitalized on – let’s begin to capitalize on the potential God has given us. All for the glory of God and the advancement of His Kingdom.

Hard to believe but it is time to “Get all excited go tell every-body that ... Jesus Christ is King!” Well I pray that we will get excited (purposefilled – is that a word?) about what we are em-barking on together! Let’s remember we all need to be involved in the telling, sharing, and inviting as well as singing and acting. Would you join me in making “In Three Days” part of our daily prayers and discussions over the next two months? We are ex-cited as we move forward with “In Three Days”. We thank you for your commitment to be involved in sharing Christ. Obvious-ly, there is no way for a hand full of people to carry this minis-try! SO Thanks for your response in helping in every possible way you have and will. You will notice bonus choir rehearsals listed below. We invite you – We welcome you to come join us in the choir. The choir is a great place to be involved! We have already begun praying for many aspects and needs of “In Three Days”, but at the top of the list are Holy Spirit movement, deci-sions, and salvations. Please pray for us in the preparations that are daily being made!
