These photographs were taken by award-winning photojournalist Carol Allen Storey who visited Rwanda to capture the work of International Alert’s Reconciliation and Reintegration programme.

International Alert has been active in Rwanda since 1996. Our Reconciliation and Reintegration work pioneered the idea that rebuilding Rwanda’s fractured society should be holistic and support all those affected by the genocide: former combatants, ex-prisoners, survivors, and the young people growing up in the shadow of the past.

Alert’s programme in Rwanda, through working with local partners, provides trauma counselling, dialogue clubs and microfinance to all these groups and brings them together to rebuild their fractured lives.

International Alert has been working for over 26 years to understand conflict and help communities build peace. We work with local partners in over 25 countries on more than 50 projects.
