It was reportedthat the con-struction andrenovation of theexpanded Tren-

ton Education Center is pro-gressing on schedule at themonthly Trenton CampaignSteering meeting on Wednesday,December 18.

Arlene Covington, director ofthe Trenton Education Center, reported that interior renova-tions were proceeding well, as isthe exterior work, including theconstruction of a new entrance.New cabinetry is in the processof being installed in the center’snew laboratory areas, along withtile in newly created restrooms.

The expansion of the TrentonCenter is part of a capital build-ing series of projects byKaskaskia College. The TrentonCenter is being expanded fromits original 3,800 square feet ofleased space in the old IllinoisPower building along Old Route50 in Trenton. The entire build-ing was deeded over to the col-lege by the city of Trenton, which allows for the nearly11,000 square feet renovation totake place, along with a 5,000-square-foot addition. Construc-tion started earlier this year, andthe project is slated to be com-pleted in March of 2014.

The Trenton Campaign Steer-ing Committee, chaired by theTrenton Sun’s Mike Conley, hasbeen working diligently to raisethe required private fundswhich, coupled with an alloca-tion of extended bond fundsfrom the Kaskaskia CollegeBoard of Trustees, will pay forthe expansion project withoutany new tax initiatives. It wasreported this month that thefunds needed to finish the pro-ject stand at less than $50,000.

The committee is continuingto disseminate information onthe project and to solicit fundsfor its completion. A number ofpublic events have been held for

the project, including the BigEvent at the Hidden Lakes Win-ery, and more recently a cashraffle and Trivia Night held ear-lier this month at the AmericanLegion hall in Aviston. Anotherlarge event and an elegant TeaParty are being planned for thespring.

Another focus of the cam-paign is brick sales. Paverbricks, which will be part of thenew entry to the center, arebeing sold for a donation of$150 for a 4” by 8” paver or$300 for an 8” by 8” paver. These bricks can be inscribedwith a short, appropriate mes-sage of the donor’s choosing, making them a perfect way tomemorialize, honor, or other-wise recognize a person orgroup with a legacy that is very

affordable and enduring. For more information on the

Trenton Education Center pro-ject, please visit www.kaskask-

ia.edu/TEC or contact Cam-paign Chair Suzanne Christ at(618) 545-3069 or by email [email protected].
