New for 2016 - Club By-Law Format and Club Planner

At the January Joint Leaders meeting we will be sharing the new Bylaw template with all the clubs and the recommended

planner to use. The State is requiring all clubs to go to this new format of the Bylaws which requires a personal review

from the 4-H Youth Development Agent with signatures before it can be approved. Check it out at:

Hello Hollar Here, I love the Christmas lights of this season, if I would take more time I would just sit under the Christmas tree and look at the lights. Granted I don’t sit well but to enjoy the lights I could try a little harder. In my world we celebrate the 12 days of Christmas until the wise men arrive on Epiphany. While others are taking down all the festive decorations ours will be well up into the middle or end of January in time for my father’s 80th birthday in February. You have heard talk of UW-Extensions restructuring and I have done my best to remain removed from those conversations until we have more concrete information to share...in which there is none. Our region (which doesn’t impact any of you) may change (become smaller) but that is who we connect with at our department meetings (a few new faces). To the best of my knowledge I will remain in the Clark County office. I can’t fathom my position specifically changing. However, others in my office my not be as lucky. My New Year’s Resolution is to serve you to the best of my ability, challenging your comfort zones at times, but ultimately always in your corner. GO CLARK COUNTY 4-H! (you need to say that standing up and pumping your fist to get the full effect)

Haitian National 4-H Youth Leadership Conference Adults and Youth (age 14 and up)

4-H in Haiti is celebrating it's 20th anniversary in 2016. Twenty years of 4-H in Haiti has developed into approximately 23 clubs and 2,000 youth. Haitian 4-H clubs share a lot of similarities to 4-H clubs in the United States, however, the idea of building leadership, citizenship, and life skills takes on a deeper meaning. For some youth who can’t afford to go to school, 4-H is the only form of education they’ll receive. For others, the life skills they learn through projects like gardening, goats, sewing, or the arts might be what keeps their family from going hungry. Still others are able to thank 4-H for bringing clean drinking water or sanitation to their village. Any way you look at it, 4-H is making a difference in the lives of young people and empowering them to strengthen their communities! The first ever Haitian National 4-H Youth Leadership Conference will bring together approximately 70-80 youth leaders representing all 23 clubs for four days to improve their leadership capabilities, learn new skills, collaborate with members from other clubs, and celebrate the 20th anniversary of 4-H in Haiti! Ways You Can Get Involved: 1. Learn more and spread the word about 4-H in Haiti. Like us on Facebook and watch for updates: https://

www.facebook.com/Haiti4HNYLC. 2. Consider sponsoring one or more Haitian youth to attend the conference. For each youth, the cost of transportation, food,

lodging (if necessary), translators, and program materials is about $150 USD. We are hoping to raise enough funds to invite 80 4-H youth to the conference.

ARE YOU INTERESTED in traveling to Haiti and teaching at the conference with us in July of 2016. An application is available online at http://www.viphaiti.org/4h/ or email us at [email protected] for more information.

COOL (Country of Origin Labeling) has been rescinded by Congress

As you may have heard through media this week, COOL (Country of Origin Labeling) has been rescinded by Congress and USDA for beef and pork products. Thus as we enter this project year for the 2016 fair season, no COOL forms will need to be collected from the beef or swine exhibitors. However, sheep and goat COOL forms are still to be collected as they were not a part of this legislation.
