DRAMA AND MUSIC FESTIVAL—SATURDAY, MARCH 4 (STARTING 9:00 a.m.) 4-H Drama Festival Regulations DRAMA 1. Performances must include two or more actors/actresses. 2. Each group is limited to one play of any length up to 30 minutes, including set-up and take-down time. It is suggested that performances be about 20

minutes in length (if the group wishes to go to State Fair). 3. All actors/actresses must be 4-H members. The director(s) may be 4-H member(s) and/or adult 4-H volunteer(s). 4. A few basic props may be available (upon request), such as a table and chairs. Drama groups should plan to furnish any special props and sound

equipment they need. 5. No special stage lighting or sound will be available. 6. No hay bales, straw bales, candles, or real fire can be used. 7. No prompting/coaching during performances by leaders, parents, or other members. MINI DRAMA / SKIT 1. Mini dramas and skits can be performed at or in any setting and might include puppetry, creative dramatics, etc. No stage lighting will be provided

(beyond the county level). 2. Mini dramas may use props and costumes. 3. Skits use minimal props and costumes (less is better). 4. Performance length can be up to 15 minutes, including set-up and take-down time. 5. All actors/actresses must be 4-H members. The director(s) may be 4-H member(s) and/or

adult 4-H volunteer(s). 6. No hay bales, straw bales, candles, or real fire can be used. 7. No prompting/coaching during performances by leaders, parents, or other members.

4-H Music Festival Regulations 1. Groups and all soloists must supply any props needed including piano/keyboard and folding chairs. 2. No microphones allowed for any performances. 3. Accompaniment and direction can be by 4-H members or adults. 4. Group performances must be no longer than 15 minutes in length, including set-up and take down. Make sure that your performance, not only the

music, singing, etc. but everything you do on stage fits within the 15 minute time limit. If you go over the 15 minute limit, you may be dropped a placing (at judge's discretion).

5. Solos must be 7 minutes or less - includes set-up and performance. 6. Adult accompanists or directors are not allowed to sing along with their group/soloist presentation. 7. Leaders, parents, and family members, as well as participants, are encouraged to attend evaluation sessions, following their performance. 8. No hay or straw bales, candles or real fire can be used. VOCAL Must have 3 or more vocalists with or without accompaniment, with or without props. Accompanists may be recorded, but must not include vocals. INSTRUMENTAL Instrumentalists with standard musical instruments, with or without costumes and props. DANCE Must have 3 or more dancers. Accompaniment may be recorded, with or without costumes or props. NOVELTY 1. Must have 3 or more vocalists, instrumentalists or dancers or any combination of these

three. 2. Must express themselves and place emphasis on musical expression. 3. Pantomiming to recordings is not permitted. 4. Accompanists may be recorded, but must not include vocals.

The Music/Drama Committee would like to

encourage and recommend that pieces selected

for Music/Drama Fest or are prepared for these

4-H events and not for other events such as Solo/

Ensemble. Work should be original work of the

4-H members under guidance of 4-H Youth

Leaders or 4-H Volunteer Leaders.

SOLOS / DUETS Piano solos and other instrumental solos will

be judged separately.

Piano and other instrumental soloists must provide sheet music for the judge.

Music does not have to be memorized.

Vocal solos/duets may have a live accompanist or a CD.

If using CD there can be no vocal on the CD. Solos/duets performance times:

K - 4th grade 2 - 3 minutes 5th grade & older 3 - 5 minutes

Clover Camp Challenge Saturday, March 25 1:00—4:00 p.m. The Clark County Junior Leaders coordinate and facilitate the Clover Camp Challenge.

Participants are enrolled 5-K to 4th grade 4-Her’s who register by March 10 come free. Individuals not enrolled in 4-H are required to pay a $5 entry fee but must be registered by March 10. Need at least 15 youth signed up to participate by March 10.

Thurman A. Craig Scholarship Administered by the Clark County Holstein Association

The Thurman A. Craig Scholarship ($250) will be awarded to an individual active within the Holstein industry. The candidate must be currently enrolled in college or technical college, or is a high school senior with post-secondary intentions. Scholarship requirements: Candidate must be a Clark County Junior Holstein Member or parents must be a Clark County Holstein member. Candidate must be a high school senior or currently enrolled in college or Technical College. Includes University of

Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board Scholarship The Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board is offering $1,000 scholarships, for use during the 2017-18 school year, to third and fourth-year college students pursuing dairy-related or food science degrees at one of Wisconsin’s four-year universities. Additional $1,000 scholarships will offered to high school seniors planning to pursue a dairy-related or food science degree at one of Wisconsin’s four-year universities or students studying in a two-year, technical school program related to dairy or food science. Applicants will be evaluated on involvement and leadership in dairy-related activities, scholastic achievement, and career objectives. Finalists will be interviewed in mid-April, with the recipients to be recognized at the 2017 Wisconsin State Fair. 2017 Clark County Leaders Federation 4-H Scholarship This scholarship is available to all who meet the following requirements:

____ Must be or have been a 4-H member or adult leader for 5 years (minimum) and at least one (1) year in Clark County WI ____ An individual entering a post-secondary school or currently enrolled as a full-time student in a college, university, technical

school, or Farm Short-Course program. A different program requires UW-Extension approval (prior to submitting an application) ____ Have turned in a 4-H record book ____ Have not previously received this scholarship (only win once)

Complete one scholarship application per person. The funds awarded after one semester of post-secondary study is completed. Stipulations are as follows:

Must complete one semester as a full-time student (e.g. number of credits achieved)

Submit semester transcripts (this could be multiple pages)

Semester GPA must be 2.5 or higher

It’s Time to Start Thinking About 4-H Art Beat! 4-H Art Beat! was created for 4-H members in grades 3-5 and their parents and leaders and is the introductory program for Wisconsin 4-H Arts and Communication! Art Beat! will be held March 17—18 at our State 4-H Camp, Upham Woods in WI Dells. The weekend will feature a look at a variety of arts projects including music, drama, visual arts, and more!

4-H members will explore their own creativity while discovering the great variety of 4-H Arts & Communication experiences available to them now and in the near future. Session leaders will be 4-H older youth, adult leaders and 4-H staff members with a wealth of experience to share. Youth and adult participants will rotate through a variety of sessions which are hands-on and active and held at various sites throughout camp. Both youth and adult participants stay in the warm and cozy heated cabins! All adults will be considered camp chaperones. Camp begins Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and ends Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The $50.00 fee includes all materials and supplies, (including a very cool ArtBeat! backpack!) special snacks, overnight lodging and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Why not get a whole carload of youth and adults together from your county for some genuine 4-H bonding time? 2017 Clark County Livestock Sale Scholarship Three to four $400 scholarships will be awarded in 2017. Livestock Sale Committee will decide how many scholarships will be awarded each year. Qualifications: Applicant must have participated in Clark County 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale program a minimum of two years

Must be a senior in high school or freshman in college/tech.

Two recommendations required – not from family member.

Scholarship will be awarded upon completion of the first semester of college/tech. and proof of enrollment for second semester is submitted to Livestock Committee. HEADS UP—Clark County is on the docket to HOST one of the 2018 Area Animal Science Dates. Originally Agent Hollar wanted to attend one of the three sessions noted for 2017 but her schedule does not allow for this to happen. Agent Hollar is looking for 2—3 people who would be interested in heading up Clark County 2018 Area Animal Science Day coordination. Please contact Agent Hollar by May 1st if you are interested in this opportunity.

General Rabbit Meeting Monday, March 6 / 7:00 p.m.

meeting if you have a youth enrolled in the Rabbit project.

You will not be selling or eating this rabbit.

Agent Hollar would like to see a few

(1, 2 or 3) rabbit educational sessions created for our enrolled participants of the rabbit project.

those educational opportunities, dates, and facilitators. Hopefully a

mix of junior specie leaders and adults who will take the reigns in

creating these opportunities.

Agent Hollar would like to have a discussion regarding enrolled rabbit participants attending 2 non-market rabbit educational opportunities to be able to show at the fair so we know youth are receiving proper training on handling and care of

their rabbits.

This conversation will help to articulate requirements in the 2018

fair book.

General Poultry Meeting Wednesday, March 15 / 7:00 p.m.

You are INVITED to attend this meeting if you have a youth

enrolled in the Poultry project. You will not be selling or eating this animal.

Maplewood Badgers / December / Whitney Lynn Flag pledges were led by Lydia Nieman and Kyle Johnson Pork slips were collected at the meeting and the pickup date for the pork is going to be the 28th of January Members were encouraged to bring toiletry items and a dozen cookies to make gift baskets for the nursing homes and the Hope Lodge in

Marshfield. Fruit was also purchased from all of the members that were in FFA and trays were put together at the meeting Ideas about our winter trip were brought to the meeting and the trampoline park won Levi did a demonstration on wood burning Following meeting members began decorating gingerbread houses. Neillsville Lights / January / Abby Mathis Pledges led by Emily and Alaina. Roll call was answered with the question “what is your favorite thing you got for Christmas”. Discovery day/MAQA, was December 27. Emily, Brady, Iris, and Hadley all reported on discovery day. Members reported on Salvation Army bell ringing at Gordy’s The club T-shirts were handed out—thanks to TCR, who donated them to us. Club recreation will be held at Bruce Mound – January 27, at 6:00 to 10:00 Speeches and demonstrations given by Emily (cats/fair); Dawson (make your own beef jerky); Iris (dance class) The next meeting will be held February 12, 4:00 pm @ Gerhardt’s house.
