Christina Perry – Human Music Video Analysis Fariha Haque The music video opens with a long shot where we can see the artist sitting in an empty room where is by herself which suggests that she chose to isolate herself. Additionally, as the artist begins to lip sync, the audience are shown close ups of the artist which helps to establish her character. Close ups allow use to understand the facial expressions and languages of the artist. Throughout the artist is wearing minimal make-up and has her hair down which indicates that she choose to be simple. Her facial expressions seem dead and dull which match to the lyrics of the song of the reality of how it is to be part of the music industry. Furthermore, the close up shots of her body also suggest that she has had enough, this is shown through her simple costuming of a pair of shorts and a vest which imply simplicity. Personally, I really like the style of editing used in this video as there’s are flashes and flickers which match to the lyrics of “I’m only human” suggesting that every normal human has glitches in their life. Additionally, I like the use of machinery used such as rotating fans and clocks within this music video as it helps to reinforce the meaning of the music video as the human body is often treated as a machine. Additionally, high key lighting is used throughout the music video to draw attention to the artist. Although she is already the main focus of the music video, the use of lighting helps to exaggerate the idea of her being alone, away from everyone and everything.
