The bui lding envelope includes al l of the exterior layers of a bui lding that come in contact with the environment. In this photo you can see 3 components of this bui lding’s envelope, the exterior wal ls, windows and the awning.

The photo shows three bui lding layers. The fi rst fl oor, or surface layer, is the publ ic level . The second level , or near surface layer, is semi-private. The top level , or sky layer, is the most private, but the most vulnerable to environmental condit ions.

Porous pavement al lows water to penetrate i ts surface. The spaces in between each paver in the photo al low water to drain through the surface to a reservoir below.

The doorway pictured is accessible because the doorway is a minimum of 36” wide and there is a 5’ turn radius in the approaching hal lway. In addit ion the door hardware is latch style, easy for people with special needs to operate.
