Finding Your Oasis“One for the memory bank.” A friend and I were

reminiscing on a particularly memorable time away on a schooner in the Greek islands. Especially the time when we arrived off an upmarket beach with the eyes of all on the beach on us! Perhaps we were very success-ful businessmen? Hopefully they didn’t see us as bankers, politicians or footballers!

Then there was the time when the potholed track seemed to go on forever. In reality it was probably no more than a mile but it took all of 5 minutes to reach the end. The end of the road revealed a structure which, it has to be said, did resemble something like the picture on the website and after parking the car we took the key from the old lady and ventured inside. Interesting place architecturally, but the presence of scores of weird looking statues and ornaments, most with their heads missing, was disconcerting to say the least. Stifling the urge to head for the door, we somehow managed to fash-ion a week’s holiday before heading home a day early. My wife and I decided not to go back there. It wasn’t a long discussion!

Finding a good and peaceful place to stay can be a bit of a lottery, especially when lotteries might not be your thing. Fortunately there are hundreds of comfort-
