OBJECTIVE TRUTH There is a movement popular now in America that I’ve heard described as “evangelical atheism.” One often encounters this new sort of hyper-aggressive atheism on talk shows, through animated Hollywood sitcoms aimed at young people like “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” and “Futurama,” and on social media. The attacks they launch on Christians are usually cruelly unfair, inaccurate, wildly hypocritical and rooted in modern day American urban hipsterism. For example, they routinely claim that Christians make substandard parents, are uneducated, superstitious hillbillies, and are also violent judgmental bigots. They say that the world would be better off if we all relied on scientifically provable “objective truth” to rule our lives rather than concepts founded on religious revelation. Of course this notion ignores the tragic history of the twentieth century. There were more people killed in the wars and death camps of the twentieth century than in all previous centuries combined. These wars and genocidal campaigns were the product of the ideologies advanced by atheist leaders. Hitler hated Christianity and dabbled in the occult, Mussolini was a well known atheist novelist and despiser of Jesus who he described as a “madman.” Stalin renounced his Russian Orthodox faith and murdered Christians by the millions, Moa, Ho, Castro, Kim II-Sung, the Shining Path guerrillas, and so many others made the last century the bloodiest of them all. I suppose if one concludes that people are nothing more than talking apes it becomes easier and easier to kill us. There was no, is no, never will be any “objective moral code.” When will the atheists finally come to accept this and stop the smug moral lectures?

The notion that scientifically verifiable “objective” truth can be used as a basis for moral decision making was generally referred to in history as “Modern project optimism” or just “Modernity.” For almost a century now we have lived in an era commonly referred to as the “postmodern era” as the result of the theories of Albert Einstein (relativity) and Freud (subconscious motivation) and many others. Prove “objectively” that love is better than hate, show the scientific basis for the assertion that kindness is preferable to cruelty; do I look through a microscope or a telescope to find the reason that I should care about others? Those who rejected God in the postmodern era have ultimately visited the most horrific violence on the human race. Jesus said: Matthew 7:25 "And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 "Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 "The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell and great was its fall." The collapse seems imminent now.
Spencer “Human knowledge and skills alone cannot lead humanity to a happy and dignified life. Humanity has every reason to place the proclaimers of high moral standards and values above the discoverers of objective truth.”
Albert Einstein
Munky Bizniz by Janet Munkres
So by the time you read this article we will have traveled to Creationfest and back again. We leave Thursday morning, the 30th of July and return Sunday, August 2nd. We are traveling in the bus with 11 teenagers and all their camping
gear. The youth van will caravan with us, bringing the $600.00 in food that Amanda and I shopped for last Saturday (from 9am to 1pm...visiting three different stores). While we are at Creationfest, the youth group will listen to some of America's top Christian artists and speakers, and shop through hundreds of CD's, books and Christian apparel. There will be representatives from Christian universities and booths set up to give information about cultural and moral issues and generally a lot of stimulation with positive overtones. Back at camp, we will have five tents set up in an open field with 30,000 other campers. We will have our wash station, cooking area, game playing table and a sign-up sheet for dishwashing and general clean up. The kids will set up their own tents and help with setting up the "dining hall" and kitchen. Three of our teenagers will be providing nightly devotions and there may be a prank or two in the works....(but it's a secret...nooooo it is not coming from me and Amanda....or maybe it is. shhhhh!) (Jonathan, Hailey and Kaitlin we hope to make you proud!)
Saturday night we hope to celebrate Robert's birthday with his favorite dinner, spaghetti and chocolate cake and sometime during the weekend there will be a massive game of Bigger and Better. This is a game where groups of kids go from camp to camp with a small item and trade other campers for something bigger or better. Then when they return to our camp we will vote on the best prize. Last time I think we came home with a cooler, a tiki torch and a pink flamingo! The added attraction this year is Squatch! You may remember that last year when we went to Tennessee , one of the leaders of the mission we were on asked us if we had ever seen a Sasquatch (being from Oregon and all)....so Sasquatch has been adopted as our group mascot, and for this trip the kids asked if I would get them a life size cardboard cutout that we could take with us and could they have t-shirts that said “Squatch Squad.” I am only too happy to oblige. Maybe we will get some pictures of the group with Squatch and post them in next month’s newsletter.
Pray for us and know that we will represent our church and our God in a favorable and honorable way!
