How Many Times Should I Forgive? One of the most

difficult challenges we face in life is the ability to forgive

    and to be forgiven.

    We have countless

    examples everyday

    of people who live

    without

    forgiveness.

    Families and friends are

    torn apart because we

    can’t forgive. Bitterness –

    Hostility – Grudges that

we carry with us for years

    and years; never letting the

    anger, and never letting go

of the hurt. Meet an angry

person and you will meet a person who has been hurt.

Letting go of that hurt is not something that we generally

are able to do, easily. Not letting go cripples us, deforms

us. Think of the cripples in the Gospel and the Lepers

deformed and cut off from community life and family. I

am certain they were asking God why? Not just about the

physical reality of their lives, but also why they were not

able to be a part of the community. I am certain they

    were feeling hurt

    and a subsequent

    anger.

    So often we carry

    “prejudice” ,

    “bigotry,” “bias”

    toward others;

    unleashing it on

    others. Think of

    the people Jesus

    met – the woman

caught in adultery – the “good” people wanted to stone

her. Think of the prodigal son who left home (maybe today

the prodigal is the son or daughter on drugs, the street kid,

and the lost one), the “good” son was angry. In each case -

forgiveness received and forgiveness offered - was the key

    for all the players.

Jesus teaches us to let go of our fears, to remember that

each person is the Beloved of God and to allow forgiveness

to be given even more than seven times.

    Thank You from Fr. Ed

Dear Friends at Christ the Servant Parish:

I am deeply grateful for the past two years that I spent with

all of you. Thank you for welcoming me and supporting me

throughout that time. You have all brought much peace and

joy to my life and ministry. Through you all I have gained

a deeper understanding and experience of the powerful

presence of Christ the Servant in one another. I want to

offer a special thank you for the tremendous outpouring of

cards, messages, gifts and acts of thoughtfulness and

kindness you expressed at the time of my departure and

re-assignment to St. Rose Parish. I regret that my time was

so short at Christ the Servant Parish, but I am very happy

that I was able to be with you. I am very blessed to have

been part of such a vibrant and loving faith community.

May God continue to bless and guide each of you on your

journeys and in your ministries as faithful followers of

Christ the Servant. Thank you for blessing, helping and

    inspiring me.

Be assured of my love and prayers always!

The Diocese of Youngstown will be engaged in aGeneral Assem-

bly from August-November 2014. The purpose of the assembly is

to define the future direction of the diocese and the model of

Church that can be most helpful in guiding our people to Christ.

In an effort to hear Catholics throughout the diocese, you are in-

vited to complete the survey found on our parish website

www.christtheservantparish.org or you can obtain a written copy

in the back of the church or at the parish office.

    Jewish Messages of Michelangelo

    Rabbi Benjamin

    Blech, presenting his

    lecture, which

    coincides with the

    500th anniversary of

    Michelangelo’s

    starting work on the

    frescoes of the

    Sistine Chapel.

    Rabbi Blech’s work

    proves that

Michelangelo incorporated many teachings of Jewish Midrash and

Kabbalah into the Sistine Chapel – daring ideas unknown to its 4

    million annual visitors.

This presentation is sponsored by Father George Balasko, one of

our diocesan priests, who is celebrating the 80th anniversary of his

baptism. Fr. Balasko has worked many years in the Jewish-

Catholic Dialogue and offers this as a gift of his commitment to

the on-going dialogue and conversation between the Catholic and

    Jewish Community.

All are welcome, but registration is requested. Refreshments to

THE ELDERLY NEED YOUR CARE &

ATTENTION There is no one in the community of Christ the Servant

Parish who needs and appreciates any care and attention

that can be given to them more than the homebound

elderly. The parish is in need of Eucharistic Ministers who

are willing to take the Eucharist to the homebound. Please

consider this ministry with great thought. It doesn’t take a

large amount of time and is so appreciated. If you are

interested, please call the parish office at 330.492.0757.

Also, if you are homebound and would like someone to

bring you the Eucharist or would just like someone to visit

with you once in a while, please call 330-492-0757.

All hospitals and nursing homes in our boundaries

(Bethany, Stones Crossing and Canton Christian Home)

already have volunteers who do this. If you know of

someone in the hospital or a nursing home that has not been

visited, please call 330-492-0757 Thank you!

RCIA Inquiry Sessions: For those wanting

to find out more about the Church and

for those High School and Adult

Catholics who have not received the

    Sacrament of Confirmation.

The Inquiry Sessions for the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) will begin on Monday evening, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. in Seton Hall. This is an opportunity for those who are not Catholic to find out more about the Church. This is a time of discernment and discussion and of sharing ones own faith journey and exploring together in community whether ones personal faith journey can best be lived out within the Roman Catholic Church.

Again, I emphasize it is a time of searching, questioning and learning, and decision making. Those individuals who have been baptized as Roman Catholics, but have not been confirmed (High School and Adult) should attend these sessions. Confirmation will be administered at the Easter Vigil with the Candidates and Catechumens. The RCIA team will be coordinated by Rosemarie Houser and team members incorporating a variety of instructors. Also sharing in the RCIA journey will be individuals who are continu-ing in their own faith journey and who will be companions with you in your own journey. The RCIA Inquiry Sessions are not intended as adult education classes for those who are full members of the Church. Adult Education will be provided for those individuals and announced at a later time.

  • A recent experience that I absolutely loved was

being in Guatemala for the wedding of Andrew

and Ceci Spehar. What a beautiful

    couple.

The first days were spent in Antiqua, the original

capital of Guatemala. The reason the capital was

moved was because of the earthquakes. You will

never guess what happened the second night in

Antiqua ? Yes, an earthquake – small, but it did

wake me. I guess that just made me bolder

because on Thursday I did something that I

would never have thought I would do – Zip-

lining in the mountains of Antigua. The picture

says it all – what a thrill ! I guess that is one

    thing off my bucket list.

From Antigua we went to Guatemala

City. At the wedding I met a priest Fr.

    Michael Della Penna, from Boston.

  • Fr. is a Franciscan priest serving as director of an orphanage called Valle de Los Angeles, in

Guatemala City. I was privileged to have

Mass for 150 of the children on

Sunday morning. I wanted to bring

    them all home with me.

    Valle De Los Angeles Orphanage

Then this past Sunday I had the

    last Mass for the growing

    season in Hartville.

I was able to both preside over

    their First Communions and

    Confirmation of the children.

    Brother Guilliamo, the Assistant

    Superior General of the Broth-

    ers of Christian Instruction

from Rome was present for the

    celebration, along with Brother

    Joshlyn, a student at Walsh

    University, along with a faculty

member, Jeannette ( English Instructor) and two students, Carolina and Maite, from Bolivia and

Honduras. It has been an eventful two weeks; one that I have certainly enjoyed and has allowed

me to experience the beauty of our world and the people in it. LGaetano
