POPE FRANCIS’ MESSAGE

By Philip Pullella, June 27, 2018 VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - When Pope Francis wanted to appoint a woman as deputy head of the Vatican press of-fice in 2016, he quickly ran into opposition from the Catholic Church's male-dominated hierarchy. "I had to fight," Francis said in a rare, two-hour interview with Reuters in his residence this month. Asked why the leader of the world's 1.3 billion Catholics, then three years into his papacy, could not put a woman into a middle-ranking Vatican role without a fight, the pope smiled and replied: "Bosses cannot always do what they want. "They have to convince. There is a verb, a word, that helps me very much in governing: 'to persuade'. It is persuasion, slowly persuading, if you can manage to do it." Francis de-clined to say who had resisted his appointment of Paloma Garcia Ovejero, a 42-year-old Spanish journalist, the only woman with an executive role in the Vatican press office and one of fewer than a dozen in Vatican leadership posi-tions. The episode is an example of one of the battles this pope has fought to change the culture of the Vatican even incre-mentally, to turn it and the Church beyond its walls into a more efficient, inclusive and forgiving institution.

As we know, Glynne Hopkins is one of our young parishioners. He comes to attend Mass and serves Mass as a altar serve at our Church quite often. His presence and his deeds are so great and they are virtues to state that how much love he loves our parish by serving God and our Church here. Our young people at our parish here are future of our Church. Please encourage our children to come to the Church to attend Mass and involve in our parish’s activities. Okanagan Correctional Centre (O.C.C) Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Our Church has entrusted to take care of inmates—our brother-and sisters at O.C.C. Our service is great because we have served them, not only with a big number of volunteers but also with our love.

Pope Francis installed 14 Catholic churchmen as cardinals on Thursday, on June 28, 2018, putting another stamp on the group that will one day elect his successor.

Presiding at a ceremony known as a consistory in St. Peter's Ba-silica, Francis told the new cardinals that their mission was to serve the poor and the Church and not seek privileges.

Stressing his message of service, he told the cardinals "the only credible form of authority is born of sitting at the feet of oth-ers in order to serve Christ".

They had to serve "real people," listing them as "those who are hungry, neglected, imprisoned, sick, suffering, addicted to drugs, cast aside."

He said: "None of us should look down at others from above. The only time we can look at a person in this way is when we are helping them to stand up." So, let us reflect the message of the Pope’s homily to serve oth-ers with love as Jesus Christ has entrusted to do. In doing so, we Come good Christians, not by empty words, but by real works. Through these good works, we can build our Parish up better and we can gain God’s salvation. Fr. Dominique

Sad News Douglas Harrison, son of Lorraine Harrison passed away June 13, 2018, at Penticton Hospital.
