From the Pastor’s Desk

This weekend we will not see the Missionary Servants of the Word. Our religious sisters from Mexico are in Boston, Massachusetts, for their annual renewal of vows. They will commit once again to their vocation and receive a special blessing from the founder of their community, Fr. Luis Butera, MSP. We have been blessed with the sisters’ presence at Christ the King for almost six years. I am grateful for all that Sister Neri, Sister Laura, and Sister Rocio have done for our church. You probably have noticed Ms. Ariana Espinosa and Ms. Jennifer Munguia in Mass. These two young ladies are lay missionaries who have given twenty months of their lives to preach the Good News in collaboration with the Missionary Servants of the Word. Christ the King has hosted a number of lay missionaries in the past. They have all been on fire for the faith and willing to serve in a variety of ways. I look forward to seeing how Ariana and Jennifer will impact our parish in these next few months. This week is the first week of Alpha at Christ the King. I know that we have dozens of participants who will be gathering on Wednesday evening for a Catholic “dinner, movie, and discussion.” Please pray for the success of Alpha, that the Holy Spirit might act powerfully in the hearts of everyone who comes. May the Lord bless you throughout the upcoming week.

It’s time to give the gift of life. The Knights of Columbus’ next blood

Christ the King will host its annual Latin American Independence Day Celebration next Sunday, September 16, after the 12:30 p.m. Mass. Everyone is invited to enjoy food and dance in the school gym

that afternoon as we honor the heritage of our Hispanic parishioners. Please join us! (This event is in Spanish.) Would you like to plan your family according to God’s plan and according to the Church’s teachings? This fall we will have an

opportunity to learn the Natural Family Planning (NFP). The course includes six consecutive classes to be held on Fridays, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The first class will be on Friday, October 26. It’s mandatory to attend as a couple. Please register before the starting date by calling at 614-237-0401, or in the parish office. Este fin de semana no veremos a las Misioneras Servidoras de la Palabra. Las hermanas religiosas están en Boston, Massachusetts, para su renovación anual de votos. Ellas se comprometerán una vez más a su vocación y recibirán la bendición especial del fundador de su comunidad, el Padre. Luis Butera, MSP. Hemos sido bendecidos con la presencia de las hermanas en Christ the King durante casi seis años. Save the date for the Youth Ministry Kick-Off on Sunday, September 30, at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King! All students in

grades 8 - 12 are invited to come together once a month for a night of faith, fun, and fellowship led by missionaries from Damascus Catholic Mission Campus. The Damascus missionaries will be attending each Mass on the weekend of September 15-16 to introduce themselves and share more about this exciting opportunity. Youth ministry events are open to both Spanish and English speaking teens. We are also in need of adult volunteers to help with setup and cleanup each night. All Saints Academy Catholic School

We need volunteers! We need help in the following areas: cafeteria,

athletics, library, and in the classrooms. This could mean serving meals, helping with sports teams (we need volleyball coaches!), cleaning and re-shelving books, or working with small groups of students. All school volunteers need to complete BCI fingerprints and the Protecting God’s Children class. Call or stop by the school office for more information.

All families and community parishes are invited to commemorate the 25th year anniversary celebration of Santa Cruz parish, 143 E. Patterson Ave. Columbus, OH 43202. The celebration includes a

full weekend of activities. There will be Mass and rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14. A Family Retreat will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 15. The Diocesan Suicide Prevention and Intervention Summit will be held on Wednesday, September 26, at the Pontifical College Josephinum Jessing Center. Diocesan offices have partnered with

the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, NAMI, the OSU Suicide Prevention Program, and other community agencies to develop the summit.
