From the Pastor’s Desk

After being with us for an entire academic year, Deacon Josh Altonji will serve for the last time at Christ the King this weekend. Deacon Josh has been a tremendous blessing to our parish, and we will surely miss his humor, humility, and love for the Lord. There is no doubt that soon-to-be Father Josh will do great things for the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama. Let us be sure to pray for him on the day of his priesthood ordination: Saturday, June 24. If you would like to write him a note of encouragement, please send it to Deacon Josh Altonji, c/o Catholic Diocese of Birmingham, 2121 Third Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203. Speaking of encouragement, I strongly encourage everyone to attend BREAD’s Nehemiah Action that will take place this Monday, May 1, at the Celeste Center on the Ohio State Fairgrounds. You are invited to gather at 6:00 p.m. at the parish for a ride on the bus to the fairgrounds. Or if you prefer to drive yourself, be sure to arrive in time for registration at 6:15 p.m. Several city officials have committed to being at the Nehemiah Action, including Dr. Daniel Good, Columbus City Schools Superintendent; Judge Elizabeth Gill, Franklin County Lead Juvenile Court Judge; Councilmembers Elizabeth Brown and Michael Stinziano, Columbus City Council; and Judge Stephen McIntosh, Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. BREAD will present these officials with solutions to serious city problems. City officials listen to these solutions because thousands of individuals (read: voters) are gathered in that place. I hope to see a large turnout from Christ the King!

The Sisters’ Corner

May is the month that we honor Mary, the mother of Jesus. We’ll begin celebrating the month of Mary with the Novena of Our Lady of Fatima, beginning on Friday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m. in the church. (This event is bilingual). We’d like to invite everyone to celebrate Mother’s Day with us on Saturday, May 13, and Sunday, May 14. There will be refreshments in the vestibule after all Masses that weekend. Please join us as we honor all the mothers in our parish. (This event is bilingual.) After the 12:30 p.m. Mass until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, the Sisters will be having a Mother’s Day gathering in the basement. There will be a special Prayer Vigil for Immigrants from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. this Friday, May 5. We will be praying for all

immigrants and refugees who face difficulties or an uncertain future. At the conclusion of the vigil, the women of the parish are invited to stay in the church throughout the night for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. All Saints Academy Catholic School

Congratulations to our pre-school! They have received 5 out of 5 stars for the Step Up to Quality Program required of all pre-schools who are recognized by the Ohio Department of Education. The expectation was for all pre-school programs to get 3 out of 5 stars, but we have achieved the highest rank. Thanks to Ms. Jones, our program director, for her hard work and leadership. We are almost full for next year’s pre- school, so contact the office if you want to be involved!
