TOO MUCH INFORMATION! There is a common expression: “Too much information!” We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don’t want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple question, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he often does, Jesus answers a question with a question; today it’s about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John’s outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been “too much information” for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this information, though it can sometimes seem “too much” for us, is essential for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Mark today, we learn this information. It is in suffer-ing, in weakness, in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. It is the information we need to find our place and come to be honored in the reign of God. SVdP Food Pantry St. Vincent de Paul will be collecting non-perishable food at mass. It will be carried to the altar to be offered with our gifts, and then put away to be given to the needy. This is the beginning of a new program and at this point, all things are needed; but we would most ap-preciate peanut butter, tuna fish, cereal, rice and beans. Those in need of food will be able to come in to receive food on the 2nd and 4th Tue. and Thurs. afternoons starting in October. DEMASIADA INFORMACIÓN PARA MI GUSTO

Existe una expresión de uso corriente: “Demasiada información para mi gusto”. Generalmente decimos esto cuando al-guien nos da detalles sobre su vida que no deseamos o no necesitamos saber. Hoy, cuando Santiago y Juan le hacen una pre-gunta simple a Jesús y le piden ocupar lugares de honor en el Reino, Jesús podría haberles dado una respuesta simple. Pero,

como suele hacerlo, responde una pregunta con otra pregunta, en este caso se trata de beber el cáliz del sufrimiento. Luego, cuando los demás se indignan contra el atrevido pedido de Santiago y Juan, Jesús les dice algo que puede haber sido “demasiada información” para el gusto de los seguidores, quienes sólo estaban interesados en alcanzar la gloria. Pero esta información, aunque algunas veces pueda parecer “demasiada” para nuestro gusto, es vital para nues-tras vidas como discípulos. Hoy en Isaías, en hebreos y en Marcos, conocemos esta información: sólo mediante el sufrimiento, la debi-lidad y el servicio generoso a los demás comprenderemos el Reino. Ésta es la información que necesitamos para encontrar nuestro lu-gar y poder ser honrados en el Reino de Dios. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Phụng vụ muốn nói lên điều gì khi kính trái tim vô nhiễm của Đức Maria?

Khi kính Trái tim Chúa Giêsu, phụng vụ muốn tuyên xưng rằng, Chúa Giêsu đã yêu thương chúng ta với con tim của một Đấng vừa là con người vừa là Thiên Chúa, tình yêu hiến tế và cứu chuộc. Còn khi kính Trái tim của Đức Mẹ, phụng vụ muốn đề cao mẫu gương của một người tín hữu đón nhận tình yêu của Chúa, bằng việc lắng nghe lời Chúa và tuân hành. Phụng vụ cũng ca ngợi con tim của Đức Ma-ria, vì đã được ơn Chúa giữ gìn cho được trong sạch khỏi mọi tội lỗi, nhờ vậy có thể gắn bó với Chúa cách vô điều kiện, không chút dè sẻn. Con tim đó không những trở nên hiền từ và khiêm tốn giống như con tim của Chúa Giêsu, mà cũng đã được thanh luyện qua nhiều cuộc thử thách, theo như ông Sime-on đã tiên báo. Nhìn lên tấm gương đó, người tín hữu cũng xin Đức Maria chuyển cầu cho chúng ta cũng được đổi mới con tim, luôn gắn bó với Thiên Chúa, bất chấp mọi thử thách. Cũng nhờ gắn bó vô điều kiện với Thiên Chúa, trái tim của Đức Maria cũng biết mở rộng ôm ấp hết mọi người được Chúa cứu chuộc. Lòng sùng kính Trái tim Chúa Giêsu và trái tìm Đức Maria cũng muốn thúc đẩy chúng ta một đàng biết trở về với đời sống nội tâm, đàng khác cũng quan tâm đến nhu cầu của anh chị em đồng loại. Lm. KHO THỰC PHẨM CỦA HỘI BÁC ÁI VINH SƠN Hội sẽ quyên góp những thực phẩm để lâu được. Xin qúy vị đem đến trước mỗi thánh lễ để làm của lễ dâng lên Chúa, sau đó sẽ phân phát cho những người cần giúp đỡ. Đây là chương trình mới của Hội. Hội cần rất nhiều thứ, đặc biệt là bơ đậu phộng, cá thu đóng hộp, ngũ cốc ăn sáng, gạo và đậu khô. Những ai cần giúp đỡ có thể đến nhận thực phẩm vào các ngày thứ Ba và thứ Năm, tuần thứ hai và thứ tư của tháng, vào buổi trưa, bắt đầu vào tháng 10. Chúng tôi xin đa tạ.

BỘI THỰC THÔNG TIN Khi ai đó nói về mình quá nhiều, chúng ta thường than “bội thực thông tin!” Trong Phúc Âm hôm nay, Giacôbê và Gioan xin Đức Giêsu cho chỗ cao trọng nhất trong Nước Trời. Thay vì trả lời ngắn gọn Ngài trả lời câu hỏi bằng câu hỏi như thường làm, Ngài nói về chén đắng và sự đau khổ. Sau đó, khi các môn đệ tức giận về sự yêu cầu thái qúa củ Giacôbê và Gioan. Ngài nói rất nhiều, nhiều đến nỗi làm các môn đệ bị bội thực thông tin, trong khi các môn đệ chỉ muốn được chỗ tốt trong nước Trời. Chúng ta cũng không muốn biết nhiều nhưng chúng ta cần biết. Trong sách Isaiah, thư gửi tín hữu Do Thái, và Phúc Âm Máccô, chúng ta được biết, để hiểu được Nước Trời, chúng ta phải trải nhiệm đau khổ, sự yếu đuối, và phục vụ tha nhân.
