SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

A MESSAGE FROM THE

PASTOR’S DESK…

This has been a terrible Spring season in terms of the weather-

but also, for me, it’s been lousy health-wise! Fighting a minor

bacterial infection two weeks ago I was put on an antibiotic.

After taking this for a week I woke up last Wednesday violently

sick and in a state of real confusion. I was dehydrated and sick

to my stomach. I went to St. Peter’s by ambulance and spent

the day in the ER. They put the blame on the antibiotic.

I was really sorry that I had to miss the weekend 1st

Communion Masses and am really grateful that Fr. Michael

Farano and Fr. Tom Berardi were able to fill in for me. I

wanted to make sure I was feeling well enough to celebrate

Confirmation on Tuesday night with Bishop Hubbard.

I’m feeling better now and hoping the rise in the temperature

will keep me healthy and looking forward to the summer!

************************

Many thanx to the Parishioners who nominated people for the

Parish Pastoral Council. We’ll keep you posted as the process

continues.

************************

With the celebration of 1st Communions and Confirmation this

past week the formal part of the Parish Faith Formation

program ends for the year. BUT, being formed in our Catholic

Faith is always an ongoing process. Attending Sunday Mass is

the most valuable way our faith develops so I want to

encourage all parents to faithfully bring your children to

Sunday Mass each week throughout the summer. Vacation

from school should not mean vacation from Church. The U.S.

Bishops have always taught that parents are the primary

catechists for your children. Please take that responsibility

seriously for the sake of your child and your family.

Fr. Jim

Reflection For the Week

Today’s readings are about love. The first

reading tells us that God loves Jesus. In

the second reading, John declares

emphatically that God is love. And in the

Gospel, Jesus assures us that He loves us a

deeply as the Father loves Him. He calls us “Friends”

and expects us to love each other. As I continue to bask in

God’s love, how loving a person am I?

Family Life News:

Mother’s Day Baby Shower We’re having a Baby Shower and

you’re invited. New life is a delight,

but some families need a helping hand,

especially these days. Beginning the

weekend of April 21/22 through

Mother’s Day, May 13, Family Life

Ministry will be collecting baby items

for the Christ Child Society, whose ministry focuses on

children and families in need. Last year the Albany Chap-

ter of the Christ Child Society distributed 523 layette sets,

and the need continues to grow each year. They currently

distribute layette items to 29 locations. Please take a tag

with a suggested baby item from one of the drying racks in

the Gathering Space. Drop off your unwrapped gift (and

with the tag attached to it, so that we can use it again

next year!) to one of the bassinets in the Gathering Space

by May 13. For “legal-wiggle” reasons, items must be

new. Baby items needed include: clothes, receiving blan-

kets, infant socks, crib sheets, washcloths, hooded towels,

diapers, board books, sweater sets, baby afghans/quilts

and 40x40 fleece blankets. Thank you in advance for your

kindness and generous support! Questions? Call Vicky

Myers 518-869-7901 or email [email protected] ***************************************************

PRAYER FOR TEACHERS Christ our Teacher,

you conveyed your message through

parables and proclamations,

through mighty deeds and miracles,

through silence, sacrifice, and love.

On this National Teacher Day,

may all educators be inspired by your

example of patient invitation to truth.

Grant them the grace to lead by example,

to teach with wisdom and authority,

and to treat every child with dignity.

May they be strengthened to continue

in this necessary work for the Kingdom of God.

Amen.

Pastoral Council News……..

There is still time to nominate yourself, or someone to

serve on the Pastoral Council. We are looking to fill four

spots on the council: three 3-year terms and one 2-year

term. We are seeking nominations and would appreciate

your help. Our parish is in need of Christian leaders who

take initiative and are strong strategic planners. Council

members help make decisions about our pastoral life and

growth. Relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit,

please help identify persons in our faith community

whom you believe could enable us to develop our sense

of Evangelization, Worship, Education, Service,

Community, Stewardship and Leadership.

Consider nominating yourself or someone else that you

feel will meet the needs of the council. Please use the

form available on the table in the Gathering Space. If you

prefer, call the rectory by May 7th. A member of the

nominating committee will contact the nominee to

ascertain interest.

Interested nominees will be asked to attend a gathering at

6:30pm on May 9th to learn about the purpose and

function of the Pastoral Council, and how you can use

your talents to help lead our parish community. After a

short recess, you will be given an opportunity to be part

of the discernment process.

Please prayerfully consider this ministry. If you have any

questions, please feel free to email John Risler at

[email protected]. ***************************************************

program now includes courses for pastoral care ministers,

parish leaders, and the general public seeking to learn

more about their faith as well as for catechists, youth

ministers and Catholic school teachers pursuing diocesan

certification. For more information about this year’s

program, check out the program schedule & brochure on

the diocesan website www.rcda.org/

springenrichment),contact the Catholic School Office at

518-453-6602 or by email at
