Thank YouPaul writes to his brothers and sisters in Christ in Philippi:

“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:3-6)

Paul thanks the believers in Philippi for their partnership in the Gospel. Because of this partnership in the gospel that the followers of Jesus had in the 1st century, more and more people believed. This partnership was extended from person to person through time, to people like Augustine in the 4th century, all the way to Luther in the 16th century. They in turn thanked God for the partnership that they had with fellow believers; and the chain continued. Believers from Germany who shared in this partnership travelled here to the United States. Jesus Christ continued to reach out; and now, here we are today as partners in the good news of Jesus Christ here in Ladysmith. For all of this, I thank my God in all my remembrance of you because of your partnership in the gospel.

There is much to be thankful for. The word of God has gone out, claimed us, and made us part of his people. I thank God that we have gathered here in Ladysmith as the Church to witness and serve. I thank God for your hard work in forming a council, creating a constitution and bylaws, for setting up and tearing down in a school gym and library, for serving this community with various events. I thank God for the work of the council members, the voter’s, and all who pray and serve. I thank God for Pastor Carter, Pastor Hughes, and Chaplain Russell for their service to you. I thank God for Pastor Koehler and Redeemer Lutheran for their vision and desire to extend the partnership of the Gospel into the Ladysmith area. I thank God for the willingness of the Southeastern District to support Christ Lutheran, and Redeemer, and the hundreds of congregations within their boundaries. I thank God for the LCMS and the partnership in the gospel that we share. I thank God for the believers that travelled here from Germany, for Luther, for Augustine, for the believers at Philippi, for Paul, for the Twelve Disciples, and ultimately for Jesus Christ.

I am quite convinced that I could fill this whole newsletter (and beyond) with things to be thankful for. It is good to be thankful. It fills us with joy to praise God for all that he is doing in our lives. Paul understands this. In the end, all of Paul’s thanks lead back to God. He thanks God for fellow believers and for their work. Paul thanks God because all believers share in the crucifixion and resurrection of his Son. It is that message that binds us together. It is the Holy Spirit that he pours out in his death and resurrection, and still pours out today, that leads us into and through all the work that we have done, and all that we will do.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, partners in the gospel, I thank God for you and for all those whom we have partnered with through history. He has done amazing things in you and through you. He will bring what he started in us to completion. In other words, God is not done with us yet. So let’s get to work.

- Pastor Christopher Weber

THANK YOU to the LADYSMITH VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT Without your kind support and loan of space, our efforts to raise money for the Caroline County Social Services Winter Heating Fund for the needy would have been a flop. There was just enough mist and rain to keep any good yard sale from happening, but the kind men and women welcomed us into their spacious bay. We set up tables and raised $683.00.

What a wonderful day. I do believe we will be doing this again in the spring.

THANK YOU to everyone for your Donations and to theVolunteers who worked the sale Thank you for donating your items and thank you to the volunteers who worked at setting up, selling, & taking down! When we started this adventure we didn’t know where it would lead, but even on the rainy misty day we shared a bucket of fun and joy and met some wonderful people from the local community.

THANK YOUThank you to Ken and Carmen Billings who helped pick some vegetables from Slow Grown in Virginia Farm today! As you can see there are tomatoes, okra and radishes which will all be donated to Social Services in Bowling Green who will give them out to those in need! Praise God for generous farmers, willing hands and caring hearts! from Sonja Weber who along with Pastor Weber also picked vegetables at the farm. There are 2 very nice pictures on Facebook!

Thank you to Linda Shaw for the very nice new directory for Christ Lutheran Church!

Chartering Service for Christ Lutheran Church of Ladysmith at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, VA on October 22, 2013

Chartering and BeyondThe overwhelming thought that kept running through my mind was that this was certainly not an ending to anything, rather a starting point or new beginning for what God has planned for us. Six years of perseverance and trusting in God’s plan resulted in our being recognized as a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. Now our efforts to bring Jesus to those who don’t know him must move forward with even more energy and purpose. o Gary Shaw, Congregational President
