Christ Community Church Building on the Word

One Sermon - Fourteen Sundays The epistle to the Hebrews has long been recognized as a written sermon- in fact, the only complete sermon in the Bible. In Hebrews 13:22 the writer/preacher calls it a “word of exhortation,” which is another term for “sermon.” So throughout this 14-week series, you’ll hear us refer to the text as “the sermon” and the author as “the preacher.” Why not take an hour to read it this week? Maybe even once every week throughout the series!

Today We Return To Our Normal Schedule Christian education for all ages from 9:00 to 10:10; one worship service in the sanctuary at 10:30. Based on the poll we took a few weeks ago, part of the sanctuary is designated social distance seating and part standard seating. If you’re comfortable sitting in standard seating, please do so; in this way we will be able to accommodate all who want to come without using overflow seating elsewhere. Thanks to all who gave us feedback on this question.

Election Results The congregation last week elected Sue Lehman and Azucena Moreno to the nominating committee. They will work with one elder, one deacon, and one person appointed by the senior pastor to select candidates for church office in 2021.

Abiding Love Food Pantry Since school has begun, the pantr ies have lost much of their teenage helpers. The pantry at Christian Assembly of God needs strong help Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 1pm.

Help the Garridos in Batam Ver and Melody Garrido started up their English Club at Batam International University on August 21. Like many universities around the world all their instruction will be done online, including the English Club program. What this means is that anyone anywhere can join in. The Garridos are seeking our help in providing native English speakers for the English club program. We are seeking people from CCC to participate in the English Club in Batam via the internet. The Club meets on Fridays at 9pm. A sign-up sheet is in the Lobby. For more information contact Mike McDowell.

HEBREWS AND THE OLD TESTAMENT

The sermon we call Hebrews expounds on many Old Testament texts

and shows how they find fulfillment in Jesus. Watch not only for

direct quotes, like those in chapter 1, but allusions like “heir” in

verse 2, a clear reference to Psalm 2 where God promises his Son an

inheritance – all the nations of the earth.

Can You Help With E-Learning? We are consider ing opening up the CCC campus as a venue for E-Learning in our community. We want to beef up our internet and provide supervision for students so that parents have one less thing to worry about. If your family would benefit from a program like this at CCC would you let us know. You can fill out a connections card with your contact information and drop it in the offering box or sign up at the welcome center. We just want to be able to gauge what kind of a need exists in our church family for a program like this. If you have questions please contact Pastor Mike

Parents Of E-Learners We would like you to know about a program we are considering at CCC to assist parents and their school age children. We are proposing to open up the facilities at CCC as a venue for students enrolled in E-Learning or virtual learning from their school districts. We would provide supervision and internet access for about 20 students so that they could complete their E-Learning studies Monday - Friday from 8:30am to 2:30pm. If this would be a benefit to you and you’d like to have your student participate, please let Pastor Mike know. You can email him at [email protected] or call the church office at 847-217-2143. Right now this is only a proposed program. Implementing the program will depend on recruiting volunteer staff and determining if we actually have a need in our church family for the program.

Convocation 2020 The dates for this year ’s missions gathering are September 27- October 4. Things will be a little different this year, including something the church has not done in decades.
