LACMA Presentation
1. Target audience for LACMA is primarily young adults, art-‐students, tourists, and
others wanting to visit. The majority of users are most likely young adults looking to go
to a contemporary art museum. Thus they probably expect to find a web design that
reflects a more contemporary aesthetic.
LACMA’s core needs are to advertise the current exhibitions and happenings. In order to
better improve the website several modifications should first be made to the
homepage. First, the featured exhibitions should be displayed on the homepage.
Second, the contact information on the bottom of the page, which when clicked will
bring the user to Google maps with the default directions leading to LACMA. Finally, the
parking icon that should be should show where a visitor can park and how much parking
costs.
There are several key elements and design concepts that should be added in order to
improve the page. For instance, there should be a scrolling home-‐bar that moves with
the page as the user scrolls down. The twitter feed should be moved to the right side
bar. The featured exhibitions should be placed on body of homepage. Third a monthly
calendar should be placed on the top left of the left side bar. The featured exhibitions
page should have a wireframe to make the page more consistent with the homepage.
Secondly, the tool bar should be deleted to make the home and exhibition page
consistent.
2. The art student uses the LACMA website to see what the current exhibits are and
what the museum is offering now. The student checks out LACMA exhibits for both
school assignments and personal interest. This target group is interested in what is
current and new. The homepage allows them to easily access details, such as location,
hours, parking, admission fees and exhibition information. Having these details on the
homepage makes the website user-‐friendly. The design of the website appeals to this
group because of the bold color scheme, san-‐serif font choice and contemporary
feel. The site is consistent and each page has a similar layout and three-‐column
grid. This type of setup is young and fresh, appealing to the student.
The art professor uses the LACMA website to stay involved in the art world and see
both new and upcoming exhibits. A professor might be interested in the opening night
of a specific exhibit. They also might want to gain information about not just exhibits,
but also events taking place at the museum. Having the website designed with an easily
accessible and readable calendar on the homepage makes this possible. The homepage
also offers important information about location, parking and hours of the
museum. This target group is served by the three column structure because it keeps the
exhibition information organized. The website’s design also contains visual hierarchy of
the information and balance. It has a clean and contemporary feel, which appeals to
this target group and reflects the museum’s exhibits and ideas.
