SEPT 2011 – JULY 2012: QTS (TEACHING), WOLVERHAMPTON UNIVERSITY Studied within an accelerated Graduate Teacher Program, while teaching with a full

timetable, teaching alone from day one, in three different secondary schools. Achieved Qualified Teacher Status from department ranked 2nd in the UK (2011).

SEPT 2007 – JULY 2011: MSCI. MATHS AND PHYSICS, DURHAM UNIVERSITY Achieved 2:1 from Natural Sciences department ranked 3rd best in the UK (2011),

overcoming Serious Adverse Circumstances (SAC) in the process. Final year project required efficient research skills. Basic programming proficiency in Python, familiar with MatLab and SQL.

EXPERIENCEAPR 2015 – PRESENT: SECONDARY SCHOOL MATHEMATICS TEACHER Taught 11-18 year-olds from a full spectrum of financial, social and cultural backgrounds. Used own initiative to provide extra tutorial sessions for pupils of varying abilities.

AUG 2015 – APR 2015: FINANCE ASSISTANT, ABM CATERING Invoicing, invoice processing onto in-house accounting system, reconciling purchase and

sales legers, bank reconciliation, chasing overdue debt, liaising with many internal and external clients, various other ad hoc accounting duties.

APR 2014 – JUN 2015: (LIFE EXPERIENCE) RECOVERY FROM BRAIN CANCER Recovered from the most dangerous form of Brain Cancer in only one year. “An amazing recovery – all credit to Chris for his incredible positivity and determination

to get on with his career and his life” (Prof. Ian Brown, Senior Consultant at UHCW)

DEC 2012 – PRESENT: INVESTMENT ANALYST Always had a fascination with investing – opened an online trading account to test my

own ideas about what makes a good investment strategy. Investments range across FTSE, BRIC and EME markets in a diversified portfolio to limit

risk. Continue to make good percentage profit up to the present date.

Portfolio seeded with £5000 own money in December 2012, now worth ~£15000 (August 2016)

SEPT 2012 – PRESENT: ENTREPRENEURIAL PRIVATE TUITION Built up a network of clients after noticing an opportunity in the local area. Now tutor for sons and daughters of several senior university professors. Made in excess of £6000 (As of April 2016) by making use of teaching qualification.

SEPT 2012 – APR 2014: EXPERIMENTAL QUANTUM PHYSICIST Conducted novel experimental physics research within the growing field of quantum

computing, making effective use of limited resources. Carefully allocated time between several diverse tasks while analysing, reporting and

presenting results on a daily basis. Required strong self-motivation in order to complete complex tasks in a timely manner.

SEPT 2012 – APR 2014: BRILLIANT CLUB REPRESENTATIVE Joined club to promote science to children of secondary school age, focussing on those

with low financial means – also gave career mentoring to children of A-Level age. Increased membership by over 200% during the course of a year. Largest increases in

membership were after I have given presentations to large audiences of 100+ people. Gained greatly in confidence as a result of these public speaking engagements.

SEPT 2011 – JULY 2012: SECONDARY SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER Unconventional “year-out” to learn valuable teaching and presenting skills. Completed notoriously difficult GTP scheme through hard work and determination. Natural ability led to increased responsibilities, for example being responsible for large

groups within exam years, while still training.

JUNE 2010 – SEPT 2010: INTERNSHIP AT DETICA LTD, LONDON (NOW BAE) 8 week internship within the professional environment of a management consultancy. Work originally based around modelling the problem of managing defects in computer

code - aimed to increase efficiency of defect management and resolution. Diversification into organising careers events for other interns and learning more about

defect resolution through shadowing a senior account manager. Gained knowledge of many business practices and industry standards like JIRA,

ClearQuest and Agresso. Gained experience with Microsoft Office applications. Improved problem solving, communication, time management and IT skills.

JULY 2009 – OCT 2009: ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPUTER REFURBISHMENT Noticed many neighbours in local area had relatively old, unwanted desktop computers. Set up local service to buy old computers, refurbish and sell on for a profit. Expanded to wider area and went door-to-door offering service. Made in excess of £2000 resulting in less student loan needed in subsequent year.

2006-2007, summer 2008: SALES ASSISTANT AT LARGE SHOE RETAILER Economic independence is essential to me - worked to support myself financially. Developed retail experience and inter-personal skills; greatly enjoyed the client-facing

aspects of the role

Awarded College Colours and Formal Vote of Thanks by Principal and President of Josephine Butler College, Durham University – awarded for “outstanding service to, and representation of, the college”.

Voluntary work at Bolling Hall and Cartwright Hall in Bradford – scheme to generate interest in science and numerate subjects.

Enjoy chess and other games involving long-term strategy and planning. Coach and captain for local badminton team – train regularly and have won several

trophies and awards.
