Personalised learning | 21st Century skills | Raising standards

November 2006 Pilot run until March 2007March 2007 licensed SoftGrid for 173 SchoolsBy September 2007 deployed on 4,487 PCsFor example in The Avon Valley School (1069 pupils aged 11-

16 years)

“SoftGrid has made our IT environment extremely flexible and saved us significant costs. Once an application has been sequenced it can be accessed by users anywhere in minutes. SoftGrid has also allowed us to have more control over our licensing because we can limit how many users can run an application.” said David Banton, network manager.

Conclusions

This is relatively new to education and worth investigating

At Warwickshire LA they have reduced infrastructure management costs and freed up time for their ICT Staff

Virtualization through SoftGrid can be used to test new software in a risk free environment

It can be used to introduce new software such as Office without swapping for a previous version

You can do more with less

Objectives

Personalised learning | 21st Century skills | Raising standards

Think:

•We(MS) have products and solutions over and above Vista and Office that help to facilitate learning.

•“I (or my ICT team) should look at virtualisation as part of the IT strategy as there maybe some benefits in doing so”

Actions:

•Investigate/Ask IT to investigate Softgrid/virtualisation

•Look into the IO Blueprints on the web

•Speak to partners about virtualisation
