About Chris

Chris Brammall is one of the leading architectural and sculptural metalworkers in Great Britain. He trained as a Blacksmith at Hereford College of Art and Design where he discovered a natural affinity for the art of blacksmithing, Chris had found a medium to express his designs and creativity. From a blacksmiths forge in the Lake District his work developed from small scale private commissions to large scale public realm pieces and in 2002 he relocated to a purpose built studio and workshop on the edge of the Lake District National Park. His most iconic works can be found in public spaces throughout the UK.

Inspiration and Design

Chris’ approach to projects is very site specific, drawing inspiration from the surroundings the work will be in, from urban and architectural to rural and natural. The end result of using each location as a catalyst for the design gives the work a sense of place and a link to its surroundings. Client aspirations and vision are also a key factor in the direction Chris takes with any project. Chris has a passion for the mountains and valleys of the Lake District which he draws inspiration from; the scale, light, texture and colour are the raw building blocks behind his design process. From initial sketches and maquettes to detailed construction drawings Chris brings his concepts and ideas to life. Throughout production Chris ensures that all elements within a project are delivered with a meticulous attention to detail. As well as in-house design, Chris works alongside some of the best designers, landscape architects and engineers from around the UK.

Chris Brammall is dedicated to the creation of the highest quality bespoke sculptural metalwork. Projects and schemes use a wide variety of techniques, materials and finishes; mild steel, stainless steel, Corten, bronze, copper, stone, timber, glass and lighting.

Our particular speciality is within the arena of public realm. A practical robust approach is taken, combined with many years experience in order to create pieces with longevity, low maintenance and anti-vandal considerations whilst at the same time being of the highest aesthetic value.

Our workshop includes a large purpose built spray booth for paint finishing work in-house. The premises is fully segregated into ferrous & non ferrous work areas and a suitably spacious external yard allows us to cater for even the largest of projects.

Installation of all commissions is managed by ourselves and carried out by our own workforce whenever possible. As such, all site operations are conducted in accordance with the current Construction (Design & Management) Act and all our staff are CSCS accredited.

Public Realm

Chris Brammall iconic public realm pieces can be found across the UK. Often part of a large scale project, Chris works closely with the client to ensure their aspirations are achieved while creating a true ‘sense of place’. Drawing inspiration from a variety of sources including history, heritage, location and surroundings each project is individual and carries the Chris Brammall mark of quality and distinction.

The Lake District Visitors Centre project at Brockhole, Windermere was awarded Winner in the 2012 Landscape Institute Awards for individuals and organisations whose vision leads the way in creating innovative and dynamic landscape.

Sculpture

Chris Brammall has a natural flair for creating beautiful, artistic and interesting sculptures designed with a unique style and manufactured to the highest possible standard. From complex large scale sculptures through to more simplistic designs each piece is carefully conceived to create iconic work of stunning design yet built for low maintenance and longevity.
