Will there be functional parity between Lumira 2.0 and Lumira 1.x? For existing SAP Lumira customers, the only capability that we are aware of that will be missing in SAP BusinessObjects Lumira 2.0 compared to Lumira 1.x is the faceted Explorer-like view in the Visualize room. We will continue to have the faceted navigation view in the data preparation view of Lumira 2.0, but that won’t be available in the equivalent of the Visualize room until a later release.

Will there be functional parity between Lumira 2.0 and Design Studio 1.x? For existing SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio customers, we expect there to be 100% functional parity with SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio 2.0. See more FAQ’s online here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn’t Explorer and Dashboards shown? Explorer and Dashboards continue to be supported products of the BI Portfolio, however they are not receiving any enhancements and Design Studio and Lumira have progressed to the point where they can do the majority of what Explorer and Dashboards can.

In What Situations Should I Use Design Studio vs Lumira? Design Studio works natively with hierarchical data, while Lumira flattens hierarchies and works with recordsets. Design Studio supports custom planning applications but Lumira does not. Lumira is designed for use by business analysts and does not support a scripting language. Design Studio is designed to create sophisticated analytic applications and includes a scripting language.

Can I Use Design Studio with Universes? Yes. Design Studio 1.6 now supports 20,000 rows of Universe data, and it natively supports aggregation. By comparison, performance in SAP Dashboards degraded after ~2,000 rows.


Frequently Asked Questions

In What Situations Should I Continue to Use Dashboards? Offline consumption use cases, and scenarios with slow data sources that use scheduled Webi documents as a data source. Addressing these scenarios are on the Design Studio roadmap.

What is Happening With Live Office? In 2015, we updated Live Office to support the UNX format Universe. The current roadmap for Analysis Office includes plans to incorporate Live Office into the Analysis Office framework, similar to how we included the EPM add-in functionality into Analysis Office.
