In my opinion I am perfect for this role because I listen to other

Nailah Gaffar

Hey, my name is Nailar Gaffar, I’m 14 years old and I go to City of

Leicester Community College.

I’m standing for elections because I care about my community and I care

about supporting, listening and encouraging the ideas and concerns of

young people in Leicester. I will make sure voices are heard and ideas

are brought to life.

I’ve noticed that there is a lack of facilities for young people in Leicester

and would like for there to be more youth clubs. If I am elected I will do

my best to campaign for more youth clubs and facilities for teens.




Jobenjeet Mehroke

Hello, my name is Jobenjeet and I’m 13. I enjoy a lot of things such

as sports, gaming, and all sorts of things. Over the years I have

gathered a lot of experiences to help me succeed in the Young

People’s Council. I am currently Captain of the school council and

have taken part in the public speaking competition Mp6. Here is

my manifesto:

I would like better road safety due to the fact of the number of accidents happening.

I would like better sports facilities for young people to encourage them to get fitter.

I would like more opportunities for young people to take part in more active things.

That is my manifesto. I truly believe in myself, I believe I have a lot

of experience that I know will help me, I am confident and realistic

and most importantly hard working. I am very confident that I can

be a great representative, and trust me; I will try my hardest to

succeed if you vote for me.

Lamees Mohamed

My name is Lamees Mohamed, I am 12 years old and I attend Madani

Schools Federation. I am running for area 6. I have taken part in one

voice which listens to young people’s views on the war between

Palestine and Israel. I have also taken part in interfaith which looks at

the role between Britain played in the first world war.

I want to help and support young people and help all of them find their

voice. We all have opinions and ideas and they need to be heard. The

Paris conference on climate change made me realise that for the best

future possible we should aim high and go green. I want to do

everything possible to make the air around us cleaner and greener. I will

do everything from planting trees to picking up litter. The beginning of a

cleaner future starts here. However I have many other ideas to improve

the lives of young people. Some of them are teaching first aid to kids

and creating teenage support groups. I want to forge a brighter future

and I want to work with you to achieve our goal.

Brahmpreet Gulati

Hello I am Brahmpreet Gulati I am a candidate for the Young people Council,

previously I have 2 years’ experience with the YPC and attending parliament

sittings 2015. I am standing for the YPC (young people’s council) election because I

feel that the Leicester, needs a voice for young people. I want to take Leicester’s

voice forward to put in the UKYP (UK youth parliament) which is further a platform

for youth issues and concerns. I have been living in Leicester – Thurnby

lodge/NetherHall for a long time. I am aware of the issues in my area.

If I am elected I want to be the voice of young people. I am strongly passionate

about clearing the image of young people but also embracing it. I also want to

listen to other young people’s views and ideas to make a big progress in the areas.

We as an area would like more youth activities , as the government are planning

to cut them, I think most people don’t understand the value of youth clubs and

the youth team and what effect it has on individuals , so FUND YOUTH CLUBS AND

DO NOT CUT THEM.

I would like to work closely with local police, like last year, we managed to have a

‘police icebreaker session’ which was a positive outcome to build on the relations

with the police.

I need your support to make OUR area the best it can be for OUR future

Raeesah Desai

Hi my name is Raeesah Desai from the City of Leicester College. I am in year 9. I am

approachable, understanding and a great listener who wants to represent all young

people in the City. Let’s grab this opportunity to design our own successful futures. A

vote for me is a vote from an experienced student council candidate that is focussed

on doing anything in my power to build a stepping stone for young people to build a

better community. I will work to reform our democracy and make young people

heard. As hard working students, our opinion should count and be recognised for

what affects us. The job market is tough, therefore young people should be given the

opportunity to develop key life skills to make them more employable so young

people have more to offer for their employability. We can fight against increased

costs of education. Students shouldn’t have to worry about owing money before

completing their education, making education more affordable and more saving

student’s money ETHOS.

Vote for me, together we can achieve more. I shall represent the views of all young

people; I am friendly and easy to talk to. Everyone should have the right to fulfil their

religious obligations and achieve optimum results in their education without feeling

isolated or secluded. Safety and internet awareness should be on all our radars

because of the dangers involved. I am not just raising the profile of young people; I

am also helpful in organising and campaigning fund raising events. I have gained

extensive knowledge in this field through participating in a successful fund raiser. To

help organise events, my knowledge in IT and use of social media can help to reach

those voices that need to be heard and represented. As an open minded individual, I

respect all boundaries, views and faiths. I believe nothing is impossible with the right

approach and attitude. I hope you will consider me a suitable candidate for this huge

In my free time I like to paint and love to play football. My ideal City

would be a place of sport activities, a clean environment and increased

My name is Mohamed Hassan Shehzad and I am 13 years old. I am a

kind of person who is confident at things and I really love football.

Whenever I do something I do it with everything I have. I love to do

things like role play drama, something that makes me stand out.

place a better place. I am a good listener so I will try my upmost best

Leicester College in Evington, but I live in Hamilton. I would like to think

I am fortunate to live in such a diverse community but I am aware that

with this comes many issues such as bullying and discrimination against

each other verbally and on social media.

Other issues I would act upon when elected would be ways in which we

individual I believe that I will be able to help Leicester’s youth to reach

their full potential. I am 100% committed for standing in the election. I

will be able to provide as many opportunities as the youth need. I will be

involving young people, they will feel important in the community by

bringing issues that you want to light and inspire young people to make a

Fatima Patel

I think that people should vote for me because I am hardworking, driven, and I have a

passion for helping the youth in my community. Young people seem to be at a disadvantage

when it comes to making their voice heard; we do not have the political influence to put

their point across, nor do we have ridiculous amounts of money to lobby MPs. That is why I

am willing to be that voice, to ensure that every young person from every walk of life has an

opportunity to put across their views. I am willing to hold regular meetings in my area for

young people to tell me what needs to be done in Leicester. I am open to new ideas and

views, and willing to act on them; Leicester is the melting pot, so everyone should be heard.

Youth unemployment has hit Leicester quite hard. We are a growing city with a large

student population. I know that in the area that I would like to represent, crime amongst

young people is a problem. That is why I would like to encourage local businesses to employ

young people, or at the very least, allow them to teach young people new skills through

work placements. In addition, I think that sports and performing arts clubs for young people

would help to keep young people off the streets and teach them new things. They would

also be fitter and healthier, and a healthy lifestyle would be promoted at clubs. I have done

my research, and young people in my area want things that would engage them. They

would not like to see fantastic facilities, such as school sports halls and gyms, be empty

during weekends or after school. They would like to be able to use them, and develop new

skills and qualities.

Recently, I spoke to some students from my old secondary school about what they would

like to see being improved. Their biggest demand was the school Wi-Fi. They emphasised

the importance of a world that was using smartphones to learn instead of textbooks, and

they wondered why their school wasn’t able to do this. They said that doing their own

research was a better way of learning than copying from a textbook, and as a college

student who enjoys projects that involve using a wide range of sources, I realised how

important a good internet connection really is. That is why I would like to ensure that every

school in my area has access to a decent internet connection. This would prepare them for a

life of learning independently after secondary school, and would help them enormously in

the future.

Good evening, my name is Karina Dhanesh Tandel. I am 18years old

currently studying at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College.

I believe that I have the necessary skills such as leadership,

communication, teamwork and always willing to listen; to fit into the

role of being a part of Leicester’s Young People’s Council. As a candidate

if elected I will not only seek to put my own opinions to the council but

also communicate to you the voters so that we can work together to the

best outcome for our generation. I would like to tackle the issues of

bullying, racist viewpoints, harassments and many other issues. Also I

want to understand your viewpoints in the education system and try to

improve it according to that. Furthermore, I would like to suggest

improvements in the health sector by raising awareness of certain

diseases like mental illnesses which are difficult to detect/understand.

So I will try to discuss all these issues with the authorities and try to

overcome them.

Lastly, I cannot promise you the future will be better but what I do say to

you today is with your VOTE we can campaign for a better, safer, more

inclusive Leicester. That is my vision for the future and I will work to the

end to achieve that.
