of young people. He has volunteered his time on numerous occasions for various CHS projects, and is actively involved with his children’s activities at St. George School. Named by the Baton Rouge Business Report as one of the “Forty Under 40” recipients in 2011, and having received numerous other professional awards, Joey’s professional credentials are clearly noteworthy. Coupled with his community-minded professional focus is Joey’s appreciation of Catholic education and his commitment to furthering it. This has led him to demonstrate loyalty to CHS and to contribute to the experience of its students today. Please take some time this month to remember in your prayers Catholic High and all Catholic schools across the country who work so hard to educate the young people entrusted to our care. SECOND SEMESTER SPECIAL SCHEDULES: On January 11 and 24, February 5 and 28, and March 15, we will once again be on a special schedule for standardized test preparation. Dismissal each of these days is at our regular time of 2:47 p.m. During the second semester, some of these sessions will be used to include special presentations for our 8th grade and 12th grade students. All 8th – 11th grade students will participate in spring standardized testing on March 19 or 20. On March 19 and 20, seniors will participate in a Job Shadowing Day (see item below) and a trip to the WWII Museum in New Orleans. The senior class will be divided into two groups, with one-half of the class participating in Job Shadowing Day on one day and the field trip on the other. You will receive more information about these special presentations and events as the dates get closer. myCHS ACTIVATION AND RE-REGISTRATION FOR 2018 - 2019: Your myCHS account will be used to re-register your son for next school year. Re-registration will take place January 16th – 26th. Detailed information about the re-registration process will be sent by email to all families in early January. If you have not accessed your myCHS account, or you need assistance with your login information, please contact Jay Butcher: [email protected]. It is important that all families have access to the myCHS account so that re-registration can take place.

RE-REGISTRATION PROCEDURE AND FEE [From Gene Tullier]: The timely completion of the re-registration process is critical to our effective planning for the 2018-2019 school year. The re-registration process allows us to accurately plan the number of sections of each course needed, hire the appropriate number of qualified teachers for these courses, order and acquire adequate instructional materials, build a school master schedule and individually schedule students in a manner that accommodates as many of their needs and requests as possible. Each of these things must be done accurately and in sequence in order for us to have an organized start of the school year in August. Because of the intricacies of planning for the coming school year, I ask for your cooperation in completing the re-registration process accurately and in a timely manner. The Catholic High School Board of Directors has set the re-registration fee for 2018-2019 at $450 which is the same as last year. If you are enrolled in the 12 month or the semi-annual tuition payment plan, payment of this fee is already included in your scheduled tuition payments for the current year. If you pay tuition in a single annual payment and did not already pay the re-registration fee for 2018-2019, this fee is due by January 26, 2018. Re-registration for all students takes place online. All families will receive an email during the second week of January to notify you that re-registration is open, along with instructions. In addition to a re-registration fee, parents of current 8th grade students are charged an 8th grade promotion fee of $50. This fee will be added to the scheduled February tuition payment through FACTS for current 8th grade students. GRANDPARENTS DAY 2018: Grandparents and great-grandparents of all CHS students are invited to the 2018 Grandparents Day celebration on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2-4 p.m., in the CHS Gymnasium. Please note, students are invited and urged to attend with their grandparents. Students will be able to sit with their grandparents during the program in the gymnasium. More than 900 guests gathered last year, and we hope that this year’s attendance will be just as outstanding. This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to

spend a few hours with their grandparents and tour the CHS campus. The CHS Mothers’ Club will host a reception for the guests after the program. The CHS Photography Club will be available to take memento photos. Parents, please check “School Announcements” in your Plus Portals account to review a listing of grandparents and great-grandparents. If your son’s grandparents are not listed, please send their names and mailing addresses, along with your son’s name, by Friday, February 2, 2018, to Aimee Turner ([email protected]). Invitations will be mailed on February 9. JOB SHADOWING: All seniors will participate in Job Shadowing Day on either Monday, March 19 or Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Each senior will spend six

hours at work with a professional of his choice. The professional should be a college graduate and cannot be the student’s parents. Afterwards, each senior will complete a reflection exercise that will be turned in to his English teacher. The Job Shadowing Calendar and Job Shadowing Plan are attached for your information. Seniors will receive this information and additional details at school during the week of January 8, 2018. Job Shadowing Day is a mandatory event for all seniors. If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Robichaux in the Counseling Center at [email protected] or (225) 383-0397 ext. 113.
