Welcome! I hope you are ready for another fantastic performance by one of our very talented performing arts programs! Thank you for attending and supporting the arts at SMCHS. The students enrolled in the SMCHS performing arts program are quite talented young men and women, and we are blessed that they are on the Eagle stage. Our students are guided and mentored by a premier group of dedicated and talented faculty. As principal, I am immensely proud of the young men and women and their teachers and leaders. The arts are an integral part of a high school student’s life and every student can benefit from their participation in many academic and social/emotional ways. Whether they are in instrumental music, choir, dance, theatre, handbells, tech crew or Comedy Sportz, the opportunities create balance in their school experience.

Our Lord, through the love of Christ, has greatly blessed us with a faculty and staff who teach, inspire, and lead these young men and women. Often, they are helping many of them prepare for a career in the arts. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, our patroness, stated:

“Go courageously to God, along the way He has traced out for you, steadfastly embracing the means He offers you.”

These students are utilizing their extraordinary gifts and talents, and we celebrate them and their courage to share them with us. In every performance the SMCHS Performing Arts Department lives the charism of our school, Caritas Christi, the love of Christ. It is with gratitude to our gracious God for the great gift of these students and educators and for you, the wonderful supporters of this program, who join us today.

Caritas Christi, Cheri L. Wood, Principal

On behalf of the Performing Arts Department, I would like to thank you for choosing Santa Margarita Catholic High School and for supporting the performing arts. Your children are a gift; they are the heart and soul of the performance you are about to experience. Thank you for being here to witness and support the extraordinary efforts of these incredibly dedicated and talented people. Every live performance needs an audience and we are extremely grateful for your presence. SMCHS is proud to be the premier Catholic high school in South Orange County. Even though the previous season was unique, the Performing Arts Department was committed to live performances. When the time was right, we seized the opportunity to perform. Once again, SMCHS performances were commensurate with the finest arts education institutions offered in Orange County, and this year will be no exception.

We are extremely proud to present the 2021-22 season. This season will surely demonstrate a newfound sense of appreciation for the artistry, talent, and excellence that is customary for SMCHS performing arts. It is this sense of pride, accomplishment, excellence, and community support for continued growth that inspired the creation of this program cover. Thank you to our sponsors for their generous contributions. Your gift has a direct impact on the entire Performing Arts Department. Thanks to your partnership, we are able to provide students with opportunities they would not have otherwise. The possibilities are abundant. No matter what you give, the application of your gift goes directly toward student learning experiences. Sponsorships will be printed each year, and I encourage you to be a part of the growth of SMCHS performing arts. Your support and commitment have helped our program evolve to this level of excellence. I look forward to this ongoing partnership. The real benefactors are the young performers who bring their talents to the stage for our student body, school parents and the entire community. So whether you are passionate about dance, choir, handbells, theatre, steel drums, guitar, orchestra, band, eagle regiment, color guard, improv or jazz band – thank you for your partnership in valuing and supporting performing arts. Sincerely, Francisco Calvo Director of Performing Arts, Performing Arts Department Chair and Director of Vocal Music

We’re back! Welcome to another exceptional presentation by the Santa Margarita Catholic High School Performing Arts Department! Performing arts inspire and unify us in a fashion that embodies the God-given talent of our students, faculty and staff. Together, our passionate, dedicated and talented performing arts team foster love, enthusiasm and respect for the arts. In turn, these unique attributes provide the foundation of a memorable experience for which you are about to witness.

“Art is an experience, not an object.” – Robert Motherwell

Bravo to all of our patrons and benefactors for the countless ways in which they enhance our performing arts programs by way of generosity of time, treasure and talent. To our Eagle parents and families, thank you for entrusting SMCHS with

your most precious gift – your children. We are honored to partner with you in their education and look forward to your continued involvement and support. I invite you now to sit back and enjoy tonight’s outstanding performance!

All Good Things, J. Andrew Sulick ’91, President

In Loving Memory of Nicholas David Kraus (1982-2014)

Thank you to all of our supporters. Special thanks to donors who contributed to the Nicholas David Kraus Memorial Scholarship. Mr. Nicholas Kraus (1982-2014) embodied everything good about a teacher at SMCHS. Trying to describe his impact on the community is like trying to describe a symphonic masterpiece to someone who has never heard it. His students felt a strong connection, and the SMCHS community loved and admired him. Mr. Kraus was a phenomenal musician, a master teacher, and his work ethic was

paramount. Above all, Mr. Kraus was extremely humble. His selfless and kind attitude was evident in every aspect of his professional and personal life. Mr. Kraus taught in the Performing Arts Department from 2010-2014. During that time, Mr. Kraus taught various courses in music, performed regularly on campus in productions and concerts, established the SMCHS Charter Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and volunteered his time and ex-pertise to assist with the Eagle Regiment Marching Band.
